Ever feel like running off to join the Communist insurgents?

quote:

"I'm tired, tired of the FARC, tired of the people, tired of communal living. Tired of never having anything for myself," wrote the author, a 29-year-old Dutch woman.

Colombia's government couldn't have hoped for better propaganda against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC. It leaked excerpts from the diary found last June to the media, even making available an English translation of the Dutch entries.

The first known person from outside Latin America to join the region's largest rebel army wasn't just disillusioned. Like most FARC foot soldiers, Tanja Nijmeijer apparently wasn't permitted to leave.

"This would be worth it if I knew I was fighting for something. But I don't really believe that anymore," she wrote on Nov. 24, 2006, according to the excerpts released by the government.

All the time, comrade, all the time.

Kept against her will and forced to support a civil war she's lost faith in?  Well, that sounds familiar.

I can't help but wonder what her punishment was for:

a: Writing what she did in that diary
b:  Leaving that diary behind

God, I love it when spoiled little idealistic idiots run off to work for the utopian dream and meet hard reality for the first time.  Bet she votes differently, if she ever gets home alive.

She's in a very serious situation, I'm thinking of her family. She sounds like she wants out... it's sad, more than anything. The real good that might come from this is waking certain people up to the realities of that brainwashing cult

This sounds like our crop of neo-cons,spreading their "utopian dreams"(at the point of a gun). For our GI`s ,it`s a nightmare.

"spoiled little idealistic idiots" ,describes neo-cons perfectly.

It's called a "consequence," Sanity.  As in, someone being responsible for how they choose to exercise their rights.

Hell, she probably did it to punish her parents anyway, so what has she got to whine about?  Her plan worked.

Don't get me wrong, she gets as much sympathy as a sub who runs off to be a 24/7 slave to some guy she met here and it all goes wrong, but she made that choice.  That this one went to join the struggle for the worker's paradise (or whatever) just happens to make it funny to me.

i would have loved to be a fly on the wall, something tells me there is much more to this story than we are hearing.

Heritic, me too.
Maybe they'll give her some liver and onions for supper; REAL Liver!
And all the socialists who want to get involved in "Darfur" should resurect the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and pick up a rifle themselves.
