Level -> Huckabee: USA enslaved to Saudi oil (11/25/2007 5:20:11 PM)

quote:

Consumers are financing both sides in the war on terror because of the actions of U.S. ally Saudi Arabia, Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said Sunday.

The former Arkansas governor made the comments following what he suggested was a muted response by the Bush administration to a Saudi court's sentence of six months in jail and 200 lashes for a woman who was gang raped.

"The United States has been far too involved in sort of looking the other way, not only at the atrocities of human rights and violation of women," Huckabee said on CNN's "Late Edition."

"Every time we put our credit card in the gas pump, we're paying so that the Saudis get rich — filthy, obscenely rich, and that money then ends up going to funding madrassas," schools "that train the terrorists," said Huckabee. "America has allowed itself to become enslaved to Saudi oil. It's absurd. It's embarrassing."

Good for him.  The technology exists for Brazil to be energy independent.  That means the technology exists for the US to be energy independent.   Had we started 20 years ago like they did we might be in the same position Brazil is today.

The question to ask...who profits most by us not being in that position?  Why are we still catering to those interests to the detriment of the country as a whole?  Another question to ask is why we keep voting those people into office so they can collect money from those it profits to keep us enslaved to the oil interests.

I have never voted for a Republican president.  I would vote for Huckabee if he gets the nomination.

I do not see where the enslavement comes from: US has free will to buy or not to buy. Also, how can inanimate commodity (Saudi oil) enslave anybody. Market will eventually regulate itself (US economy will fall into recession).
We can not take presidential candidate's words out of context and then make big deal out of it. The comment was made just to stress US economy dependency of foreign energy suppliers who may be not very friendly to US interest.

Not to be rude, but no shit. No one took his words out of context.

Not while George Bush is the Saudi's Bitch. Look at all the appeasing he's done to those terrorists?

Did he invade Saudi Arabia for their role in financing, training and planning the 9/11 attacks? Nope.

INSTEAD, He pulled the US Troops out of Saudi Arabia. As Ordered by Osama Bin Laden.

Energy Independence is a NATIONAL SECURITY issue. Anyone who impedes the US obtaining is an Enemy of The State.

I think the US economy is already in recession.  The thing is that its not only the US that drives the prices of oil  We are a part of it due to consumer demand but I still think the whole up and down thing is BS anyway.  The oil companies need to make lots of money now to contribute to the political campaigns of their friends in govt.

Just wait until the next round of Subprime ARM resets.

Every admin since Reagan, and possibly before, has appeased the Saudis. It will likely continue if we elect any of the "business as usual" politcians in.

Quick reply:
The U.S. imports 30%of its oil.  So when OPEC raises the price of oil why do U.S. producers raise their price also?  I thought they were suppose to be on "our side"?  If the Saudis are getting "filthy, obscenely rich" it would seem that U.S. oil companies would be getting even more "filthy, obscenely rich".  How bright do you have to be to see who is fucking whom?

Has to do with the futures commodities. Is one of the reasons I believe oil should be removed as a commodities.

Frankly many other countries are DEALING with the demon- by hard goals toward alternative energy.  We are funding both sides by simply shopping and carelessly consuming.... in short glutony.

Joy riding- heck- how much blood is shed for SUVs?  I dont want to hear about hauling the family. Car sharing is an option,

I very much am interested in geothermal.

Next up: Huckabee claims the sky to be blue!  (This is somehow a "bold statement?" Tell me how you intend to get the oil monkey off America's back, Hickabee!)

Absolutely. It wasn't but a few weeks ago that Paul Krugman was quoted on NPR as saying '' Hedge Fund speculation in oil futures'' is responsible for as much as forty percent of the per barrel increases over the last few years.

Fresh water, coal, natural gas, oil and hydro-electric power plants should always remain as part of the ''commons'', held in public trust, owned by all--- never subjected to privatization.
