Hugo Chavez has lost his support for a voter referendum that would end term limits, change the constitution, allow government control of the media, and move the country towards socialism.

Current polls show that 49% are against and 39% are in favor. Just 10 days ago Chavez had a 10 pt lead.

The vote however is expected to be a razor-thin margin and voter turnout expected to be much larger than previously projected... The vote takes place December 2nd.

It'll be interesting to see how legit this election is going to be.

Reports are that already the government is telling their employees and businesses owned by the government are telling their employees that they must vote "Si." Some would say that right there is voter intimidation. I mean imagine if your boss comes to you and tells you that either you vote this way or you're fired. How does that qualify as democracy?

Chavez is a dictator. And dictators need enemies in order to stay in power. They need to feel important and needed. It has nothing to do with "towing the US line." It has to do with making himself look important in order to make himself more powerful. Sure he throws a few breadcrumbs to the poor....But everything he is doing in that country is aimed at moving it towards socialism and centralizing absolute power. He now controls the legislature and the Supreme Court. The government owns the majority of businesses and the media. Journalists and political dissidents are thrown in jail on a regular basis. And now he wants to eliminate term limits so that he can stay in power for life.

Yet you are saying that we would be lucky to have a leader like this in America? Are you insane?

Elected in 1998, 2000, and 2006, Chavez is as much a Dictator as Bush. The enabling acts were passed, lawfully, exactly as the AUMF-Iraq was.

People who live in glass houses, shouldn't.
