Just saw an article on CNN about people donating toys to charities for Christmas.
The Salvation Army said that if you donate toys that were made in China leave them unwrapped because they need to inspect them for lead paint poisoning. Lead paint poisoning!
Sheesh! Why would they accept any toys from China anyway if they're all "suspect" now?
Couldn't they just say, "Please, if you care to donate toys don't donate toys that have "Made in China" stamped on them."
Or maybe, "in lieu of donating toys made in China consider a cash donation instead."
They can do a lot more with cash donations anyway.
Every Christmas I buy toys and donate them to the Salvation Army and The Hibernians fund for underpriviledged children.
I don't want to take any chances so this year I'm making cash donations so that they can better choose things for the kids!

Some bikers I know who do a big ride for Toys for Tots every year always want the items donated not wrapped as that lets the Marines check everything over to make sure the item is appropriate and not damaged.

This year I decided it would be best just to donate money anyway since I have no idea what is made where and don't really want to spend time in a Toys 'r' Us trying to figure out what is and isn't made in China.

Yeah, I've donated to the Marines "Toys for Tots" in years past.
I wouldn't want to buy a toy that they're just going to throw in the trash anyway so I'll give them a check instead.
They leave a collection bin in the lobby of the gym that I belong to.

Here in California everything has to unwrapped when given I always drop mine off at local firestations, and since this whole led scare(at least around here)you can look on the bottom of the toy and see where it was made.

PaHunk, they do?
Once in a while I just go to the grocery store and fill up a cart like for the Letter Carrier's Food Drive every spring.
Do you mean from the supermarket or from their home?

We go through the cupboards twice a year, and anything within three months goes that way.  Anything 'scary' expired goes in the trash.  If they're getting the food from a charity outlet, I assume they'll be eating it quickly.

There's a difference between "sell by" dates and expiration dates where the food is no longer fit for human consumption.  The donations might just be "expired" by the "sell by" date, but can still legally be donated and safely eaten by those in need.

I give to the Salvation Army too.  I give them money every holiday season, and I always take my unwanted stuff down there when I need to clean house.  The toys for tots is a great program too.  I kind of understand why they are doing this.  They are just trying to avoid a lawsuit.  You can actually find toys that are made right here in the good 'ol U.S.A.   There are local craftsman around here that make all kinds of stuff.  My little brother is a carpenter, and a friend of his makes rocking horses for a local charity.  You just have to seek them out.
