I have really long straight hair- just past my waist. Would you folks be so kind as to share what you like to do or have done to long locks, or how you like to see long hair? Brushed and hanging loose? Braided? Pony tail?

I'm asking because I am sooooo sick of my hair. I hate how it gets in the way and now that winter is here, I hate how cold my hair is after a shower and how long it takes for it to dry- those of you with long hair know you can't use a hair dryer all the time because it eventually damages the ends. Cutting it is NOT an option. My husband absolutely will not let me cut it. He only allows me to trim it to keep it healthy.

So, please help me fall in love with my hair again. Paint me pretty pictures with your words, please!

Might I suggest sweeping it up with one of those clips in the back? It gives the appearance of a completely different haircut. I used to do this when I needed a change (Master had me cut my hair off, so I no longer have the super straight long locks.) You could also try two french braids on either side of your head right after a shower and before bed. In the morning, gently take the braids out and voila! Curly hair. My hair is really straight when long as well, and I found that this is the only way my hair would hold a curl for any length of time.

In term of my hair - I think it looks great wrapped around and in Darcys' clenched fist...[;)] (that probably doesn't assist you at all!)

I love long hair...my hair is down to the middle of my back, but I wanted a more current look for business and I never wear it up or in a ponytail.

I got bangs and a long layered but, so it always looks good swinging down.

And will have to agree with dark, it looks best when wrapped around someone's wrist...

'bangs' is american for 'fringe' isn't it?  That term always throws me..but it rocks![;)]

I do have bangs (fringe for D&d) a la Bettie Page. The rest is a straight blunt cut- that's the way hubbie likes it. We've never tried hair bondage - that intrigues me.

When I had realy long hair and couldnt stand it anymore, I would wash it before bed and braid it into 6 or 7 rows, to sleep in.  By morning it had dried out and the wave it picked up from the braid gave it a completely new look. Combined with some nice barette clips or claw holders, I now had an entirely new look to work with.
You might want to try it, and if you want a more even wave, separate your hair into 3 or 4 on the top and whatevers left on the bottom, all about the same size.

BEG your husband to let you cut off as much as possible--(at least 10", the more the better)
 
if you haven't ruined it with chemical treatments, "Locks of Love" will help spread the love to children who need it.
 
the more drastic the better...you'll miss it when it is gone, and absence makes the heart grow fonder!!!

I've seen double absorbent hair towels at places like Taget and Wallmart, but never got them cause it's never been that big an issue with me, but that could help with the cold, wet hair thing.

As for day to day, when mine bugs me I just literally tie it in a knot at the nape of my neck.  Mine is kind of curly so it has enough texture to stay that way for an hour or so 'till it falls apart.  But I think it is kind of a fun, 'I have better things to do than do my hair' up-do.  Don't know if it would work on super smooth hair. 

Putting it up in a bun with a pretty hair stick (or even a pencil) also works for that.  Just do a loose-ish bun, bring the tail around tight underneath so it is against the head in the middle of the bun, and poke a stick through from the top of one side, under the tail in the middle , and up through the other side so the end is pinned in place.  Play with angles, how much hair hangs down, size and tightness of the bun etc. to get some different pretty effects.  Get cheap fun chopsticks at Asian markets for this, can use the two at different angles.

I'm also a big fan of these little dohickeys that cover a bun and hold it in place.  I have a really pretty hand-made wire one so you can see the hair through it.  They are usually cup or oval shaped, with a hole on each side and a stick that goes through.  The oval ones can go over ponytails too, not just full buns.

And I'm a big fan of the french braid.  Super fine with lots of sections when I have the patience, or just start about half way down and just a couple more sections on each side when I'm in a hurry, still looks a lot better to me than a simple braid.

I've done "Locks of Love" once before. Hubby WILL NOT let me cut again. One time when I joked about whacking about 10 inches off, his eyes welled up with tears! Cutting is not an option.

I tie my hair up in a knot too, and I have quite a collection of chop sticks.

I'm talking about lovely stories of WHAT to do with long hair when it comes to nookie time. I need to fall in love with my hair again in a kinky sort of way, because right now, I just see it as a big red mess that gets in the way. I feel like Cousin It sometimes, and I don't see why hubbie loves it so dang much!

I have now donated twice to Locks of Love. the last time that I did it my hair was so damn short that all of it would not go into a pony tail holder.

I was checking out their website and they will now take treated hair.

I am a switch and when I am in a submissive head space when I play I wear it down.  I find that hiding behind it in that space puts me in a place where no one else can go, until I feel a strong hand start at the nape of my neck and slide up into a handful of my hair and pull my head back forcing me to look into the eyes of the One that is with me in that space, the One that brought me to that space, the One that ownes me in that space. SO, think of your hair as a teather to keep you on earth when your husband sends you flying...

Right after I got it cut, most of the hair would go back. there was two grouping of hair, one on either side of my head, about the thickness of a pencil that would hang in my face.

This is wholly unsub of me, and is liable to catch flack...but such is life.

My hair is now to my waist.  I just cut off 4 inches about a month ago.  Give it till next years trim and it will probably be at my butt.

Its thick and its mildly curly and gets in the way.  I have to french braid it before sex otherwise when I end up on my back, I have to spend 2 hours picking out knots and mats. 

Therefor, the last time hubby pulled the "absolutely not" on hair cuts, I said fine... You learn how to braid it, and you can wash it and condition it and comb it and stand there for 2 hours with the hair dryer and make sure its completely dry, and then once its dry you can braid it...and after sex you can spend another hour brushing it back out again... and when you want it colored again, you can do that too.

I got my 5 inches cut off the next day and am no longer required to have it any longer than my waist.  :-D

Guess picture tells the story...lol.  Since I live in a very hot and humid area, it stays up in chopsticks most of the time.
