Despite a veto from Baghdad, Iraqi Kurds have signed contracts with foreign firms to exploit their huge oil reserves which they vow will benefit the whole country.

Strengthened by the autonomy enshrined in the Iraqi constitution, the Iraqi Kurdish authority launched a regional oil policy in August, signing deals with overseas companies, to first achieve self-sufficiency and later exportation.

The authority has signed 20 contracts during the last three months and shows no sign of changing course, despite threats from the federal government to blacklist companies trading with the Kurdish region.

So, what happened to the Iraqi Parliament as a legitimate authoritative body? If they're impotent in something as basic as this, how can anyone pretend they're real players?

You mean, Michael Moore LIED to me???

Our soldiers haven't smuggled all the Iraqi oil out in their canteens yet???

No wonder gas is up to $3.09 a gallon... I've been wondering where all that "stolen" oil could have gone to, because I'm not seeing any of it!!!

I heard the oil is being sold in the open market, and is not coming to the US.There is no benefit for America.Halliburton and friends are doing quite well, though. Our soldiers weren`t meant to be used(abused) this way.

Oh yeah, Halliburton had ought to operate at a loss. How awful of them to make a profit, risking their lives in war zones, serving our soldiers like that.

They should do that kind of stuff for free!

You missed the point.

If Halliburton wants to make money, fine. Our army was never meant to be used for corporate America`s purposes. They are dying for oil that`s not even benefiting the US,but is going to China.

They should be paid, for each troop, whatever it costs the US Army or Marines to put a troop there.

If "The Mission" is so damn important, and they're such fucking Patriots, why wouldn't they do it at a break-even or even a loss, if the difference could be made up elsewhere?

Should only the people in the Army, and Marines and National Guard bear the cost, or should people who CHOOSE to offer up mercenaries also bear the cost?
