Every Relationship we learn something. Some relationships leave us poor.  Some of them leave of bitter. Some leave us with fond memories. A few last a lifetime. I Saw on a post where someone had made a comment about hoping everyone came away learning lesson. What are the lessons you have learned about your relationships? What are the important values you have grown with. Or resentment of

I would have to say that the most valuable lesson that I have come away with would be to "never" take the person that you are with for granted. The person that you adore the most in life might not always be there. Take the time and the opportunity to say somthing nice or that you love him/her. Life is too short not to do this. Don't ever let the last words of the day or before on you leave for the day be cross words or nothing at all. You might not have the chance to redo it later.

I agree don't let the sun go down on an argument because you can't trust them in the dark.

I am not sure it could be put any better than that.
My one comment is not to continue to repeat the same dynamic over and over that caused the original breakup - learn from the mistakes you made, move on and do better next time.

My relationshp lessons translated to life lessons:

1.  Plan for your plans to change
2.  Sometimes we get lost along the way, but if you stay focused and determined, you can find your way back.
3.  Sometimes you get lost more than once.  Sometimes it takes a long time to find your way back. But you still can.
4.  Learn yourself, love yourself, be true to yourself.
5.  Forgive
6.  Be compassionate - with yourself as well as with others.
7.  Bitterness and anger create a wall around you, which prevents goodness from coming in.
8.  Recognize people are who they are, and not necessarily what you want or think they should be.
9.  Recognize the same about yourself.
10. If you live in fear, you miss out on a lot of good stuff.

I too agree with what you said. In my case it wasn't a break up. I lost a previous Master in a car accident a few years ago. I have never taken anyone in my life for granted since.

TRUST is the hardest thing to give but when it is given the relationship moves to a whole new wonderful level xxx

With the passing of each relationship I have felt it is important to learn that your next relationship is NEW. Treat it that way. Never make your partner pay for an ex's indiscressions. Learn to Trust until given a reason not to, and remember always that sometimes a second chance is just another chance to be hurt again and other times it is what is needed to move foreward and learn to forgive.

I like that we should always learn from our past. I like that.

As Always

So many good comments! I try to learn from any relationship I've had. I reflect on the mistakes that I've made and accept responsibility for my part in the ending of the relationship. Very rarely is it completely one person's fault that things didn't work. Both people usually carry some blame. Also, as someone else said, learn to trust and give your all in any relationship. Holding back in a relationship may help you from being hurt, but it is also holding you back from being completely happy. I will say that the most important thing I've learned is to not sweat the small stuff. There is no point in arguing over something that isn't going to matter next week or next year. Save your arguments for things that really matter, and once something is hashed out, let it go. When you're wrong, say you're sorry. When the other apolgizes, accept it gracefully and let it go.
