Owner, that's nice and all but, we've been pouring money into third world countries now for about 50 years and most of it's been stolen.
When are these countries going to start being self sufficient and take care of themselves?
According to last night's news the Iraqi govt is a complete failure.
Why should they do anything as long as the U.S. is there to do it "for" them?
This stuff doesn't work!
Time to cut the apron strings!

I'd agree that the USA and the west in general should cease meddling in the affairs of sovereign nations but since the vast bulk of the poverty, misery and despotism in the third world is as a direct result of the predatory attentions of the first world, there remains a moral obligation to help the helpless we helped create.

Watch the vid from the 1st link

Children are the issue. We can`t just do nothing.

Plumpynut is the answer.Cheap, premade, and it keeps well.

Your right about corruption, in the third world, though.

Owner, don't you mean they can't just do nothing?
(We) have done far more than we should have.
The only thing we're doing is emplanting a welfare mentality on an international scale. When does it end?
Will they be self reliant 10 years from now?
I met a woman whose father I knew from an Irish organisation in N.H. who worked for the "U.N." but quit.
She was a teacher in an African country and it was her job to teach other teachers there to become teachers, a teaching instructor.
She said she ended up doing all the work and they wouldn't lift a finger.
She told them that she was there to show them how to do it, not to do it "for" them but they just couldn't grasp that concept and she ended up getting into an argument with her supervisor and quit.
Evidently they couldn't understand the parable of ,"teach a man to fish."
So, instead of being an instructor of teachers she ended up being a teacher herself, not part of the "job description."
There has to be time limits on this stuff!
We shouldn't be doing this kind of thing for 40-50 years!
If foreign aid actually worked the amount we give every year should be going down not up!
Zensee, you're half right.
It was the Europeans who had the "colonies" in Africa not the U.S.
I still don't know why we had embasseys in Kenya that were bombed by al qeada!
I mean for what possible purpose?
The more I read about Ron Paul and his non-intervention philosophy the more sense it makes!
We are told be the left that, "the world hates the U.S."
But, they still want us to give money to countries who hate us!
Does (that) make sense to anyone?

Also, people need to understand that America is no longer a "rich" country.
We are going into a reccession and we are $9 Trillion Dollars in debt!
We are now a "poor" country.

well, reduce the aid just like when dad lost his job, if we are to spend, lets spend it on food for the hungry and not war

Ron, "foreign aid" doesn't give me a warm, fuzzy feeling because I know where the money goes.
And I really don't think *my government* should be doing that kind of thing.
They're supposed to be running our country not a charity for foreign countries.
Charity should be done on an individual level.
What did Reagan say about the most dangerous words?
"I'm from the government and I'm here to help?"

I`ve heard,(although , I don`t have video proof or a signed confession<smirk>) that a lot of the fighting and dying in Africa, is over food and water.

Realistically,we`ll never stop the warlords or every conflict. But who wants to make a guess at how much less war there would be,if people weren`t starving?

The stuff is relatively cheap, keeps well w/ out refrigeration, and saves lives. It`s not like we`re throwing money at the problem, when we can make the stuff, and give them that, instead.

I have never given money to a homeless guy.But I`ve given food to a few,or bought them lunch.

This sounds like a great idea, and I hope we are able to help get plumpynut to the starving children of the world.  Sounds like a good investment to me.

seems like we are farm subsidizing most of the ingredients so our government has that commodity on hand in great numbers, might help everyone out to cook up a bunch of those candy bars and get them out to the starving nations, at little additional cost to us, relatively speaking.

Yup... spend billions to bomb their bridges, and billions more to rebuild them... while our own infrastructure rots. Not a pretty picture of morality, if you ask me.

The PTB has perfected the art of introducing ready-made solutions to their created problems. The primary moral obligation is for the people to recognize this fact, strip the PTB of its power, and stop their predatory actions in the first place.

Isn't it time that we stop seeking the band-aid approach, and start addressing the causes of what ails us?

PS... this does not mean I'm opposed to sending plumpynut to starving people as we begin addressing the real cause of problems.

There's an interesting thought...

Pay our farmers to feed the world's poor.  Better than letting fields rot.
