You son of a bitch...

Your gonna make me choose between Zep and Van Halen?

gotta go with Eddie I suppose, but hardly seems fair since Van Halen seems more 70s-80s then 60s-70s

[;)] Yeah, there were several bands that gave me a headache, straddling decades and such.

No Whitney?  Although she was born in '63, I'm sure her presence was already being felt....In fact, I believe the song "Runnin with the devil" was inspired by Whitney after she broke David Lee Roth's heart.

She's soooo purdy.

Vote, DG, vote! No Whitney, though.

Good to see you back, pal.

Well I dunno, maybe it's cause i'm the cub of this bunch but I think Van Halen I think more 80's, so maybe it should be taken out of this particular group.

Lumus -> RE: Rock and Roll Round 5 of 7 (11/15/2007 2:09:36 PM)

Bowie.  It was that or Zeppelin.  Great sound to both, but Bowie took way more musical risks, and I'll take creative over polished any day.

ownedgirlie -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/15/2007 8:09:47 PM)

Tough choices but I also take into consideration who was the most influential band, and Zeppelin takes the cake.

You linked one of my favorite songs of theirs, too.

Bluebird -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/17/2007 2:09:19 AM)

Zeppelin - without a doubt!  And due to the (rescheduled) impending reunion, how could you choose any other???

Any other Zep-head pervs headed to London for the show?

SubMQueens -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/17/2007 2:32:47 AM)

Around this time in 1973 I stood in line (I was #14) at the Nassau Colliseum to buy ZEP Tickets.  I wasn't a huge fan but my girlfriend at the time was...  It got so cold that night that the Colliseum opened the doors and let us all sleep inside - gave everyone numbers to honor our place in line and it turned ito a huge party.  Through the night a black market started with people "buying up" the line.  Trading large numbers and cash for lower numbers to move up in the line when the box office opened in the morning.

I held onto number 14 and wound up with second row center tickets for two shows.  We went back to back nights and I was hooked!  So thanks for that cool memory and I vote ZEP!

Still say Halen is supposed to be in the 80's poll.

at least tell me your gonna include them if you do an 80's poll.

Nope, because I'd have to look at doing the same thing for other groups that straddle the fence. But, one of the threads I'm going to do in the near future will match bands that achieved success in different eras (such as VH), and that'll certainly have some 80s stuff. Roth vs Hagar, you know.

CrimsonMoan -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/17/2007 9:23:24 AM)

*grumbles* damnit i looked right over bowie and voted zeplin.

Level -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/18/2007 3:22:16 AM)

Zep in the lead........ should have made all these end at the same time, instead of dragging them out.

domiguy -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/18/2007 3:37:06 PM)

Although the sour taste of defeat is still fresh in my mouth....In regards to the "Whitney fiasco" as it is now referred....This did not stop me from once again making the "right" choice.....Bowie.

He was way ahead of his time...A visionary who's music has held up over time, who was more influential than probably all of the artists in this poll combined... Who's further accomplishments  far exceed any other "artist" listed....I expect little from a country of carpenter munchers.....You all sicken me.

Vote for Zep if you must....But in your hearts you will realize that you have once again put your hat squarely into the realm of the mundane, the vanilla, the typical.

"Ziggy really sang
Screwed up eyes and screwed down hair-do
Like some cat from Japan
He could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave them to hang
Came on so loaded man
Well hung and snow-white tan."

heartcream -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/19/2007 1:38:49 AM)

Oh yes Bowie all the way for me. Sure Led Zeppelin are amazing but Bowie is way more my style.

Level -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/21/2007 2:59:20 AM)

Poll ends tomorrow. Zeppelin leading.

Level -> RE: Rock and Roll 1960s/70s Round 5 of 7 (11/23/2007 3:38:39 AM)

Zep wins.
