HOUSTON - The “CSI”-style wizardry increasingly being used to solve crimes is running up against its limitations in Houston, where police are hunting for a possible serial killer in the slayings of seven prostitutes.

The victims’ nude bodies were discovered over the past 22 months, with most of the victims dumped near churches in Acres Homes, a neighborhood where shabby bungalows and gleaming new homes share the same streets.

The slayings have spurred one of the most intensive homicide investigations in Houston history, filling seven 4-inch-thick binders and yielding a 695-page report. But investigators say the hunt has become a roller coaster ride of frustration and 18-hour work days.

You would not believe the number of these investigations that begin, and then stall. Here in Atlanta, about 15 years ago, it took a newspaper reporter investigating welfare fraud, to uncover links between several prostitute slayings. Those went unsolved, as many do every day in major cities. Another good reason to have a fully armed populace.

Most serial killers are not the stupid type. They have all their killings planned out to every little detail....and sometimes the clues they leave are calculated and intentional. They like playing that cat and mouse game with the cops.

Also like to add that this case may be easier to solve if prostitution was legal.

Legalise prostitution?  Including streetwalkers?  What about the people who live in those neighborhoods?  What about the exploitation of girls and women by pimps and other ne'er-do-wells?  Are we supposed to permit them to advertise in newspapers and on tv?  How in the hell is this an answer to the slaying of high risk victims?

They would not be on the streets if it were legalized. Since the business would be legal, they would feel more comfortable in calling the police if they were beaten, or extorted. They already advertise in some alt lifestyle newspapers and such. Once they were no longer pushed into the criminal world, they would not rate as high to be victimized.

If one legalizes prostitution, one can also tax it and regulate it.

Pimps and the majority of the criminal types can zero in on hookers here because the profession IS illegal in many locations. This leaves people open to manipultion and extortion.

If prostitution is legal, as it is in parts of Nevada, Holland, Germany and many other parts of the world, the prostitute can call the police herself without incriminating herself if she needs to do so.

Legalizing prostitution may not include legalizing streetwalkers, it depends upon the regulations chosen. Many places have zoning regulations for many different occupations.

Licensing and regulation could include medical exams and testing (which might include drug testing).

Of course licensing the ladies of the evening will reduce the opportunity for bribery and corruption in some police departments.

This may drift from the post- BUT it is newsworthy.  Will County- IL, A suburb of Chicago- Lt Peterson, of the Police Dept- his 4th wife is missing. His 3rds body to be exumed. Honestly- the burbs are dangerous- too- violence isnt confined to the city line. ANyhow the 3rd wife - coroner ruled she drowned in the bathtub. [really] Well coroners can be bought. And like any big city- almost anything can be BOUGHT.
How surreal is it this girls name is Stacy Peterson?  [remember Lacy?]

Years ago-- I recall- meeting with the board of directors of a univeristy. The nicest lady was missing. :-(  Later they found her body in a car in the Cal-Sag canal. SO they dreadged it up. They found 30-70 cars there!!!! [part of a student focus group- not a bigshot]

So foul play not only happens in the big cities- we learn only of a handfull of the monsters- when in fact- I believe- [ok- not a fact] more exist. But never got found out.

?dredge a canal today ?

If it was legal and regulated, you wouldn't have streetwalkers. You wouldnt have pimps. It would actually be safer.

There was a case in Florida not too long ago where a woman went to the police to report a rape, but she was arrested too because she had a warrant out for prostitution. So now prostitutes know they cant go to the cops for help because they know they'd be arrested.
