Ok, I'm bored and very, very curious. I read a lot more than I post here and I see new posters many times making posts that bend or break posting rules or asking/commenting on the ever popular, but I'm not vanilla!!!! Why does it say I am?? [8D] So what I'm wondering is when you first joined and found the forums did you read the rules and guidelines posted throughout the different sections? Also did you read the forum rankings? Multiple selection is on for this due to the choices. I really am curious about it and hell, have some fun with it if you're so inclined.

It didn't take long for my comeuppance, and while I don't know the TOS and forum guidelines for each of the forums by heart, I have a better than average understanding of them, as they exist, and I do occasionally trip up on the new but unwritten stuff, but on a all vol site, I imagine not everything is going to be up to date and perfectly correct. Very true. I did read through them all before I ever started posting, of course it took me about a month before I actually worked up the nerve to make that first post lol, and if I notice a change, I go back and read the change or new addition and skim the others for a refresher.

i've only read parts and have learned the rest by hanging out & reading & by using my head...they're not really that difficult to figure out...most are the same as all the other boards online...oh, & Mod 11 was really helpful there for awhile [:D] eta: & it took me a very long time before i ever posted a thing......

I dun read more rules because they're usually the 'basics' the rest can be figured out while lurking

Lurking can help someone get familiar with the regular posters and the general tone of the forums true, but what's really so bad about checking out the rules and guidelines? Really curious on the why of it.

I read the form rankings later on, I figured that one out on my own. (It helped that I’ve been on other boards before). I read the TOS on just a couple of the topic areas. And assumed that most of the others followed the same ie don’t be disrespectful and don’t talk about anything illegal. [:)]

I had been for a while on another kink site, and on vanilla forums before that. Most rules seemed commonsense by the time I got here, and the few site specific I picked up by reading and seeing what wasn't said.

I can understand not reading in depth if you've been on forums before because yes a lot of it is common sense and similar. I'd still have to check it out though lol cause I'm just one of those that has to see. This forum was also the very first one I started reading and posting on, so I was totally new to forums at that time. Now I'm on several.

I wandered and lurked for about a year before I started posting. Now that can't shut me up. Still have yet to read a guideline or TOS.

I read it, everyone's always saying it says certain things. It's just a contract, the only thing really spelled out specifically is um's, enforcement and remedies, although I wonder if that part is valid personally. I'm a weird rule/law type person though. It's not entertaining reading, trust me.

I read the guidelines. Still took me a little time to figure out what an UM was. Moderation is an art, not a science, you still have to get a feel for what will fly and what will get shot down. I'm coming up on three years on these forums, and it still puzzles why some things get moved, why some don't, and why comments about J Edgar Hoover being gay disappear so often. I guess that is just the nature of keeping a board like this on thick enough ice.
