Like much of the region, the southeastern city of Atlanta remains in the fierce grip of a drought that has continued to strangle the area's water supply for months.

But as many residents are trying to curb and conserve their water usage, one 14,000-square-foot property in suburban Atlanta has clocked more than 60 times water the average household uses.

Neighbors are outraged that the man, who lives in his five bedroom, seven bathroom home alone, has used enough water to fill a dozen standard swimming pools, while the rest of the city is so thirsty for water.

If you think it is bad now, just wait a few years what is happening ow is nothing compared to the water wars both domestic And overseas that is about to take place.

Man. Water may cost what gas does if this keeps up.

(quick reply to OP)

I went through a couple bad droughts in California and wonder why the SE in general didn't start restricting use at least a year or two ago.  Do any of all y'all locals have info on that?

But, the water department said it has no proof he has broken any regulations and has no authority to stop him.

I think this might be the problem right here.

This is why they need to institute water rationing in the Atlanta area before they run totally dry. It's also why I chose to live in the Great Lakes area, it will be the last place to run out of fresh water.

Mindboggling.  We are shortsighted.

I would think that the fact he is using even more water than a year ago would be probable cause, and some city officials should be driving by at regular intervals.  We have public officers here that drive around to make sure that the locals are adhering to the local restrictions here, and if parties are found culpable their water is turned off the second time caught.  The first time they are just fined, but the second they get no water at all until the enforced water conservation schedule returns to normal.  I bet the gent would care about that.

the local news here in atlanta showed the water company riding by his house at all hours, trying to catch him watering his lawn.....his lawn remains lovely and they know it is being watered....they just cant catch him......

we have a total outdoor watering ban here.....they have shut off water to banks, ritzy subdivisions, etc......they are trying the hard core approach that anyone caught violating the ban will have to go without water over night as a punishment....not to mention the fines....this am on the news, jail time was even mentioned.

i was raised here, and have never seen anything like this.......the schools are going to disposables, the saying "if its yellow let it mellow, if its brown send it down" heard daily.

its a mess, and we only started hearing how serious it was a few months ago....the total watering ban has been in affect for maybe 2 months.......hopefully we will have a wet winter...

They would have to go onto his property and find the buried irrigation lines to bust him. Yeah he sucks as well as a few of the other large properties here in Atlanta do too.
