From This Is London:

Santa is being told to shift the pounds before Christmas - because the obese saint is failing to set a "good example" for children.

The traditional children's hero, best known for feasting on mince pies left out on Christmas eve, has always sported a bulging midriff.

But shopping centre bosses are giving the well-wisher his marching orders - to the nearest gym - to tackle the increasing problem of obesity.

The revelation comes after a medical report earlier this month stated that by 2050 more than 50 per cent of Brits will be obese.

I'm all for public health, but Santa?! Really, now.

Is nothing sacred?
Wait, I will answer My own question .
"No, nothing is sacred"

Instead of milk and cookies, I guess we'll leave slim fast and salmon patties on the table before going to bed.

BloodLuna -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 5:37:01 AM)

ewwww - salmon patties?????

At least slim fast makes the pretense of being chocolate!!!!!

I'm not sure how I feel about this.  When I hear that 1/2 of kids the same age as my um are overweight and having cholesterol and heart problems at SEVEN I get a bit antsy.  But then I hear that the gvt is forcing Mcdonalds and other fast food chains to use "healthy" oil alternatives and I taste my favorite fast foods and they taste like total CRAP I get mad at Big Brother.  Why should everyone be punished because other people are too stupid to monitor or moderate their diet ?  Let them eat themselves to death and remove themselves from the gene pool.  (and before anyone gets mad at me for being callous I am talking solely about people that over eat, refuse to exercize and generally are too lazy to take care of themselves.  I have the utmost respect for those (and family members that do) that try their hardest or have medical issues!!!!!! )  But the obsession with weight also sends teens the opposite direction (like me at 15 with severe eating disorderes that had me 89lbs at 5' tall and in the hospital for months)  so the whole weight obsession thing has me split minded.

But attacking Santa?  What in the world did this red clad elven king ever do to deserve that kind of negativity????  My great uncle is a Santa's helper.  He's looked the same since I was like 6.  Of course, some of his belly is most definately cotton padding.  I can't imagine how my Um would react come this Yule party and Uncle Santa suddenly doesn't look like the "jolly old elf" anymore.  Since when do magical characters have to worry about heart disease anyway?   LOL To be honest my Uncle Al (Uncle Santa I've called him since I was 6 and all the ums in the family still call him that)  is 72, and the healthiest older guy I've ever met.  All the ho! ho! ho!ing and loving kids must keep his heart in great shape!

Ok, sorry - I'm done venting.  Good post topic DC - anything that gets my dead blood pumping rocks! LOL

If you ask me, a salad and a diet drink is the kind of stuff that gets coal in your stocking. Santa can put you on the naughty list at any time. If anyone thinks they are going to get something good from Santa for leaving out diet food, they better ask for a paif of knee pads. There's a good chance that they might need them.

In the same spirit, Lent should be cancelled and the story of Jesus in the desert for 40 days and nights must be suppressed - in order to prevent eating disorders in those who might aspire to the same feat.

wait. Half the Brits wont be obese till 2050? Wow! By then 100% of Americans will be obese. I'd say the Queens santa is doing something right! Must be the name difference between the countries. Father Xmas must set a lighter table than Kris Kringle. Carrots opposed to Ho Ho's and all?

pahunkboy -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 6:42:25 AM)

The modern diet- gotta love it. the fatc is preservatives are necessary to carry foods a longer shelf life.

Santa is a candidate for diabetis. it isnt  funny.

Alumbrado -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 7:44:52 AM)

You mean this guy?
http://www.americanvision.org/images2/saint_nick.jpg

Where did anyone get the idea that he was supposed to be obese?  Oh, yeah, from the candy manufacturers...[;)]

KenDckey -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 8:02:15 AM)

Just wondering   Do we now have to change "'Twas a night before Christmas" so we can be politically correct?   After all a belly like a bowl full of jelly isn't a good thing.

CuriousLord -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 8:26:15 AM)

Oh, give me a break!  So Santa has a few extra pounds.  Big deal.  Who here wouldn't have a few extra if part of their job description included eatting a million plates of cookies and drinking a million glasses of milk every year?

Your figures as to the actual number of cookies and glasses of milk consumed by Santa I find to be totally spurious CL. For one there are more than one million people around the world expecting a visit from the big fella. Then consider that each household may layout more than one cookie for his consumption. I would so love to know the basis for your research into this matter as I am finding it hard to understand how you have drawn up such outrageous figures.[:D]
Yep I'm bored.

CuriousLord -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 8:40:42 AM)

Ah, I assure you, while 94.3456% of figures are made up on the spot, I've carefully researched my numbers.  (This link should shed some light on this subject.)

Just kidding, of course.  :P

velvetears -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 8:42:46 AM)

i would much rather be a bad girl and have the german belschnickel (? spelling) visit me with his switch [:D]

FullCircle -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 8:59:41 AM)

I put it to you all that Santa is an anagram of  Satan. You should all be extra careful now because he is obviously evil from this new information that has come to light![8|]

I believe our modern images of Santa come from cartoonist Thomas Nast and poet Clement Clarke Moore, believed (though there is some debate about it) to be the author of "A Visit From St. Nicholas," aka "The Night Before Christmas." I don't think either was a candy manufacturer.

Raechard -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 9:54:10 AM)

I hear Santa only wears red and white due to the influence of CocaCola.[:D]

Badkitty0810 -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 9:58:00 AM)

I thought it was to disguise the fact that he bathes in the blood of virgins. [:D]

Raechard -> RE: Santa Told to Slim Down (11/11/2007 9:59:43 AM)
