LadyHugs -> THANK YOU TO ALL THE MILITARY VETERANS! (11/10/2007 8:11:16 AM)

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen Military Veterans,

I wish to express my appreciation and state my thanks, to all the men and women who have served in the military services and those presently serving in the military services.

The families and friends who have connections with any military individual have also done their services, mostly in a support role which I do acknowledge, thank and appreciate.

Although my appreciation is year round, I do enjoy the honor as well as the opportunity to personally thank Veterans and active members of the military.

For all the gripes and complaints that get all the focus--the real focus should be on the best of our Nation--the ones who humbly go about their military tasks, do it well, do it honorably and do it for the good.

Again--Thank you to all the men and women of the military.

Sincerely,
Lady Hugs

This Sunday the 11 of November as it is every year we give thanks and rememberance to all our vetrans here in Canada. Through out the month of Novemeber we Canadians don poppies pinned to our clothes,to show our appreciation and gratitude ,for with out them we would most definatly not have our freedoms in this great country that we so callously take for granted...I am fortunate to have a dear friend,Gaston, who at 16 lied  about his age,and began his tour over seas with the French commandos, where he successfuly completed his duty and came home safe...We sit around for hours talking about those days ,all his stories ,his near escapes from  death at  the hands of the  nazis...Gaston is 87 years young, and still gets tears in his eyes talking about his lost companions and fellow warriors..He sits and shakes his head and wonders if we have learned anything ....

Thank you for your kind words, Lady Hugs.

FR to the topic:
Flowers and all that are nice, but as one of 1% of Americans on the receiving end of this occasion, a mailbox overflowing with nude pics would also be good.

Oooh rah!!!  Semper Fi!!!

My dad was one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children and while I may not have the best relationship with him, I am very proud of his service to this great country.  God bless the men and women in our military and their families.  Their sacrifices are what gives us the freedom to live the life that we want.  Always remember, freedom is not free.

I proudly wear the poppie too. My Dad was overseas in WWII . He could never really talk about all that went on over there.
Here is a poem I think most school children learn in their lifetime up here in Canada
        In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.
- John McCrae

God bless all the men and women that have fought for all we hold dear in life today and in the future.

We spent the day making custom hand crafted wood pens for the troops in Iraq.

And my years in the military were some of the best.

We sometimes take our military forces for granted; but they are a select few willing to make the greatest sacrifice if called upon.  Many blessings on all military families.

Thank you for posting this LadyHugs.
In addition to honoring our military on this special day each day, I try to make it a point to thank any soldier I see in uniform throughout the year.   It is gratifying to see the appreciation of this simple acknowledgement on their faces, and an indication of how easy it is for us to take their service and the freedom that service provides for granted.

Some of the most enjoyable times of my life were playing in my band for our military in Japan and Korea. It made me feel good to bring some joy and a "bit of home" to those brave men and women.

Today in the UK there will be hundreds of services held to remember those that have fallen and those that are still fighting. The largest event as always will be at the Cenotaph in Whitehall where the Queen and other members of the Royal Family will lay wreaths. Anyone who thinks that the act of rememberance is declining should watch the service and see the thousands of people who still turn up to events such as this and for events such as the Festival of Remembrance concert which is always held on the Saturday before the Cenotaph parade. Again the concert is attended by the Royal Family.

Up and down the UK today there will be smaller parades and wreath laying ceremonies.

A memory that will always stay in my mind is of a visit to the Trenches in Belgium which have been preserved in honour of those that fought there. Seeing them in real life and seeing pictures that were taken at the time show the true horror of war.
