(BTW, Blue Man Group is a theatrical troupe, see if you can figure out why an audio label would be less useful to their success...)

So you are left with 1 counter culture example, which compared to all the artists who did follow the traditional model (and all the ones who tried to go indie and were buried), doesn't support the assertion that labels don't build fan bases.

Selling tickets is selling tickets.

Selling DVDs is selling DVDs.

In all 3 cases, ticket, record, DVD and CD sales are all independent of any label affiliation. In fact, if you're familiar with either Albini's or Love's deconstruction of label deals, the labels really can't be said to provide *any* benefit.

Anyway, I don't doubt that labels are dying, just like the old Hollywood or Motown 'star maker' system did...
but I agree with the premise that just having talent and no label will disadvantage some artists who might have made it by being discovered under the old model. Not everyone is equipped to create and market and promote, etc.

IMHO, the new 'survival of the fittest' model is going to result in a bunch of mediocre 'lowest common denominator' turds floating to the top of the pool, as people still buy what they are told to buy, which is the model that will never go away.

It's just a day everyone had a big push to collect a bunch of money. It came from the movie V for Vendetta, a movie I personally hated, but whatever.

As far as mickey mouse publicity stunts, LOL, You must of never heard of what is called "fund raising campaigns" you know like all candidates have done for god knows how long. So, if your position is its a mickey mouse stunt to raise lots of cash on a schedule day, well my friend, there are a lot of mickeys and minnie's in washington like everyone of them. Seriously, grow up. It called raising money. I didn't here any of this bullshit, when Romney went war dialing for bucks when he established the previous record and got coverage for it, I'd say that is a lot worse, than supports just saying on this day let's give a bunch of money without the campaign getting involved at all.

Mickey Mouse, LOL, whatever, man. There are plenty of things to get the panties twisted over in this election, but acting like money raising pushes are somehow a new disease brought on by the Paulites, is quite frankly obsurd to the nth degree.

I think there is definitely a groundswell for Ron Paul. Reminds me of many candidates of the past....low and innocuous but momentum towards the convention. Wasn't that how Reagan, Clinton and George W made it to their first election?

Vote Cthulu......He'd make a killer president...maybe Ron Paul would be his VP?

Answered my own question with help from Fox News. Giuliani's folks did indeed come up with a $9.11 event.
