MzMia -> How high will oil prices go this winter? (11/6/2007 4:01:56 PM)

As I sit here listening to the evening news, I hear that oil is headed for $100 a gallon as quickly as TOMORROW.
How high do you think it will go?
How is it going to effect you?

Hi MzMia

Big oil and speculators in the world markets say the reason oil prices are skyrocketing is because there is an oil shortage.

Since this forum covers much of the industrial world maybe someone can tell me if they are out of gas at their local filling station or oil for heating. I travel a lot in the US and I have never seen a shortage… just high prices.

I think a good law would be to prohibit speculation on future fuel prices. When and if there is a shortage… not a maybe shortage… or an artificially induced speculative panic… then raise prices appropriately.

I for one, am making sure I have plenty of firewood this winter. I use LP to heat my home and I know the price is going up.

i saw 3 stations raising prices today as i drove by....that and the fact i had to turn my heat on cause its finally going to freeze tonight scares the hell out of me.

i paid $2.84 when i filled up the other day....news is reporting its over 3 bucks a gallon as of today......

and for my first gas bill, i may get drunk before opening it

ugh

I just got gas at $2.80 per gallon.
I only filled up half way.
I don't fill the tank when prices are this high, I figure why should I be storing gasoline for the oil companies.
And, filling up adds about another 80-100 lbs to your vehicle which cuts into your milage.

General reply to all......
I find the oil situation very interesting, especially this time of year.
I think a lot of people are going to be hurting very soon.
The prices of everything is going to also go up, because as the prices of oil goes up...
so do the prices of food, etc.
The trucks that carry the food have to raise their prices also, a lot of people are not going
to understand the ramifications of this until it kicks them in their arse.

Around here, prices at the pump have shot up at least 10-15% over the past two weeks.

That is incredible, thanks for sharing!

I think it's ridiculous that the oil companies are continually making record profits & yet the price of gas & oil keep going up.

Well, MistressHolly as the price goes higher and higher, someone
must be benefiting, and of course it won't be the consumer.

I heard on t.v. that when it hits $100 a barrel, some oil executives are buying
champagne and having a big party.

Oil production has peaked, only recession will bring prices down. It is expected that $120 a barrel will bancrupt airline companies.
