ManInTheBox -> New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 4:26:20 PM)

Do you think it's called for? Obviously it's not the norm. Do you think Belichick is just pmsing after everyone proclaiming him a cheater? What are your thoughts? And...who do you think wins the battle of the undefeateds Sunday? :D

Estring -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 4:56:31 PM)

Well, there really is only one team that could run up the score that way, so no it isn't the norm. Joe Gibbs said he had no problem with it, but I wonder what he says privately.
As someone said on a sports talk show, if teams are upset about the way the Patriots play, they need to do something about it. I don't see any team being able to do something about it. Including unfortunately, the Colts.

Level -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 4:58:06 PM)

I think the Patriots are all commies, perhaps more of a group of Bolsheviks. Especially that Brady fellow (if that's his real name).

Pinkos 30
Colts 28

popeye1250 -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 5:08:00 PM)

The Patriots are just steamrolling the other teams on their schedule.

stef -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 5:22:19 PM)

I think he's going to do his best to let Brady and his offense shatter every possible record they can this season to show that he doesn't need to cheat to destroy every team in this league.

Sunday's Pats-Colts matchup is going to be the only interesting regular season game this year.

I think that may indeed be it, stef.

Sadly, we'll be getting the Texans/Raiders this week. [>:]

DomKen -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 5:40:06 PM)

Belichik is a cheat and should have been suspended while the league took apart his pro scouting department and found all the ways they were stealing signals.

As to running up the score, the wheel always turns and the Pats will soon enough be enjoying being on the other side of run up scores. Based on how long the league took revenge on the Bears and Ditka for '85 I'm guessing the Pat's are in for at least 5 years so far and likely a lot more.

KatyLied -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 6:40:49 PM)

We play them Dec 9th.
::shudder::

rubberpet -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 6:53:20 PM)

For Belichick to run up the score, he has to have the talent to do so, which he does.  Moss has been the superfreak of old this year...all he needed to be the standout that he used to be was give him a quarterback that knew how to actually play quarterback.  Welker has been a huge surprise, but if you put the right players in the right system, that is the kind of success that can be had.

I think Belichick is a cheater for what he did with the videotaping scandal, but was he the only one to get caught doing it?  Besides, just because the Pats were videotaping the other teams' signals, the Pats had to still go out and play the game and execute.

The Pats have been just steamrolling everyone they played this year, but even though I'm a huge Peyton fan, the Colts will face the same reality.  My heart's with Indy, but NE will beat them, but not by that much...38-24 Patriots.

Estring -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 6:56:24 PM)

They play Miami in their next to last game in Miami. If they are still undefeated by then, how much pressure will Miami be under to beat them and keep the 1972 Dolphins as the only team to go through the season unbeaten? I just can't see Miami beating them this year, but this is the NFL, where stranger things have happened.

maybemaybenot -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 6:57:51 PM)

Ahh, yes. Running up the score.  Let's play... you guess the team/coach :

Tennessee Titans | W | 34- 7

Detroit Lions | W | 47-14

at Cincinnati Bengals | W | 38-15

New England Patriots | W | 41-27

St. Louis Rams | W | 42- 6

Baltimore Ravens | W | 37- 0

at Cleveland Browns | W | 43- 0

at Cleveland Browns | W | 41- 0

Kansas City Chiefs | W | 45- 7

at Carolina Panthers | W | 37- 3

Answer would be Bill Cowher and the Steelers

I don't have time to list them.. but here's a few the scores from Lombardi's Packers:

41-7
45-7
49-17
37-0
49-0
48-21
49-0
41-10
38-7
42-10
42-13

45-21
41-9
42-27
56-3
48-21
55-7

And here's a few from Tom Landry's Cowboys:

41-19
 45-21
 31-2
52-7
47-14
56-7
52-21
37-7
46-21
59-13
45-13

34-3
38-7
49-14
34-0 and 45-21 in the same season against the Redskins
52-10

42-7
44-21
52-10
42-14
40-3
 45-10

And one of my favorites:

Steve Young, who has been crying about the Patriots running up the score and how horrible it is. Let's just take a sampling of his scores against Atlanta when he played:

1992 – San Fran 56, Atlanta 17
1992 – San Fran 41, Atlanta 3
1994 – San Fran 42, Atlanta 3
1994 – San Fran 50, Atlanta 14.

Give me a littel more time and I can dig up ALL his whiney ass stats/scores and his running up of the score. Seemed to be quite fashionable for him, but apparently not ofor others.

Would anyone like me to put up a few scores from the Colts the year Manning was chasing the TD record ?

Here's a sure fire way to prevent some one from running up the score..... defend the freaking ball.

I am an admitted long time Patriots fan, The Bears whipped our ass 46-10 in the SB < i think> and there was no whining by me or any other Pats fan I know. Indy knocked the snotout of us 2 years ago 42-21. Where were all these cry babies then who are sooo appalled at  " running up the score then .. or when Cowher's Steelers, Landry's Cowboy's, Walsh's 49 ers were doing it week in week out and basking in the glow ?

That's right Level. Classless, unsportsmanlike, score running, disrespectful, spit in the face of the integrity of the game Cowboys !
And the way you guys are going this year, you may be score running again soon. Let's just hope sportswriters and pundents don't advocate for the breaking of Romo's knees, like they are Brady's. I am actually pretty sickened at alot of astuff being said right now. Spygate.. ok... cool. Call us cheaters, put an asterick next to our SBs if you like, say anyting you like. But to be wishing and encouraging LBS  and Def. Co ord. to " take him out at the knees " is absolutely making me ill. I didn't even listen to half of the sports shows any more.

edited to add : Bill Cowher was one of the biggest whiners this past weekend about the Pats score running. I always respected him as a coach, but he's pretty much a hypocrite in my book now

Estring -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 7:14:59 PM)

In order to "take him out at the knees", you have to get to him first. That doesn't seem to be happening much this season. [;)]

I don't listen to sports call in shows (or political ones, for that matter) because the vast majority of people are doofuses. It isn't surprising that you're hearing that kind of crap, mb. Brady and the Pats are having a phenomenal year, don't let the crying ruin it for you. [;)]

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (10/31/2007 9:06:26 PM)

Well, not a huge football officienado..I am here to say that despite the Pats dishonest practises the Colts still managed to beat them to super bowl last year..of course again the doubting thomas'es think that the Colts will lose this Sunday..we proved wrong once..do the Colts have to prove wrong again just to be given the benefit of the doubt?..GO COLTS!!!...Indy/Tempting..:0)

Am I wrong to assume you're pulling for Indy? [:-]

Another thing to keep in mind, any time one sees a score like the ones mb listed above; just because it says 42 to 3 or somesuch, doesn't mean they ran the score up. Those 42 points may have been scored while there was still quite a bit of time left in the game.

Now, if you're ahead 35-7, with a minute left in the game, and you're throwing it down the field like there ain't no tommorow, shame on you, indeed, but I'm not at all sure the Pats have done that. I know they didn't against Dallas.

maybemaybenot -> RE: New England Patriots...running up the score (11/1/2007 5:46:03 AM)

Tempting:

I anticipate a close game against the Colts. I think it's gong to come down to whoever has the last possession of the game. Just like last year's AFCCG, expect with a different winner. [;)]  I actually want a close game, truth is blow outs make for boring games to watch, IMO.

As for the doubting Thomas's, you guys proved them wrong in the last three visits we had with each other. HF is a huge advantage in this game. The Dome is a difficult place to play. That said, I think we have a slight edge physically, so it's makes things pretty even. As much as the media is hyping this game, in the grand scheme of things, it's only one game. If we win,   it helps us shore up HF advantage, but has no negative effect on the Colts if they lose. We aren't divisional rivals and our records will still make both teams first seed, if they continue to win after whoever loses this game.

Is what called for? Playing the game better than the other team?  Every team should strive to do that during the game.  I don't understand all the whining.  Yes, the Pats won by a large margin in the last game, so what?  They obviously played much better than the opposing team.  What I'd like to know is, if it wasn't the Pats, would people be whining so much?

As far as who will win this weekend, well, naturally, my vote is for the Pats [:)]

If it was Dallas or Oakland, there probably would be even more whining.
