"In my case, the border guard pulled up a file showing that I had been arrested at the US Mission to the UN where, on International Women's Day, a group of us had tried to deliver a peace petition signed by 152,000 women around the world," says Benjamin. "For this, the Canadians labeled me a criminal and refused to allow me in the country."

"The FBI's placing of peace activists on an international criminal database is blatant political intimidation of US citizens opposed to Bush administration policies," says Colonel Wright, who was also Deputy US Ambassador in four countries. "The Canadian government should certainly not accept this FBI database as the criteria for entering the country."

quote:

Wright added, "The fact that the FBI has put us on this list. The National Crime Information Center Computerized Index is a form of political intimidation. The list is supposed to be for felony and serious misdemeanor offenses.

"We don't qualify-- it's for sex offenders, foreign fugitives, gang violence and terrorist organizations, people who are on parole, a list of eight categories all together.

NATIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER (NCIC)

NCIC is a widely used law enforcement computer system. Most major law enforcement agencies have NCIC connections.

NCIC is often compared to a large "file cabinet," with each file having its own label or classification. This cabinet of data contains information concerning the following:

* stolen, missing, or recovered guns;
* stolen articles (must have a serial number);
* wanted persons (for questioning or arrest);
* stolen/wanted vehicles (autos, aircraft, motorcycles);
* stolen license plates;
* stolen, embezzled, or missing securities, stocks, bonds, and currency;
* stolen/wanted boats;
* missing persons;
* Index to State Criminal History Records and Criminal History Records of Federal Offenders;
* unidentified persons;
* foreign fugitives;
* ATF Violent Felon File;
* U.S. Secret Service Protection File;
* gang and terrorist organizations file;
* deported felon file;
* Originating Agency Identifier File; and
* protective order file.

Well this is nothing new. A lot of us who protested the Vietnam war in the 60's are on some FBI list to this day. If you are going to protest government actions in a public venue then you have to realize going in that the government is going to do all it can to intimidate you.

 seen that on democracynow.  folks denied entry to Canada for being a protester.

I wonder why your Oped web page doesn't give his opinion as to why he was arrested.

You mean the part about how they were arresting trying to peacefully present a petition to the UN?

Can a pedestrian even walk past the UN?  [in New york] I know there is "supposed" to be public spaces- most of which are private.

Given the proven lies the Bush Admin has been feeding America? Why would you for a second doubt this?

Are you like an abused housewife, who still defends her abusive husband, because the lies and beatings show "how much he loves her"?

Or are you like the family member of a Junkie, living in denial of their addiction, grasping each lie as a tiny bit of hope?

So now you're trying to change the subject to me, and to the White House?

How... LOL. I'll just say, your desperation is showing, farglebargle...

You *are* the one who is choosing to discount all the lies you've been told already.

There's a big question of anyone's motives when they support the White House's suppression of Free Speech and Free Travel rights via the improper use of what used to be important law enforcement tools.
