Nosathro -> Blackwater Guards get Immunity (10/29/2007 8:32:35 PM)

According to an Associated Press the Blackwater Guards involved in the September 17th shoot have all been given immunity from prosecution by the State Departments Bureau of Diplomatic Security.  This in effect stops the FBI from investigating what happened and any chance of prosecution by the US.  The Blackwater Guards were give what is know as "Garrity" protection is usually given to government law enforcement.  It is unknown who in the State Department approved the immunity.  The head of the State Departments Bureau of Diplomatic Security has resigned effect Thursday.  The FBI Agents in Iraq who were suppose to be investigating the September 17th incident have returned to the US, non of the Guards are willing to talk sighting the immunity.  The US Army Official Reports supports the Iraq claim, the Blackwater Guards simply open fire in the crowded square, they were never fired upon or threaten, some guards fired on people less than 50 feet away.

Wow. The freaking FBI is scared of Blackwater. What else can be said.

Blackwater is better armed and better armored than the FBI.

Alumbrado -> RE: Blackwater Guards get Immunity (10/29/2007 9:01:26 PM)

And this is the company that wants to come back to the US and 'expand' into law enforcement.

Nothing good about that.

Next time, it would be helpful if you posted a link.  I don't have time to track down every cockamamie thing people say in the Collarme forums, so if you're saying something that's actually documented, please provide the documentation.

Some stuff should never be privatized, even Nozick thought defense forces should be the responsibilty of the government.

Just the kind of guys we need at our next disaster.  They were also used at katrina.  Nice huh?

This bird wont fly!  In the absence of any law- SOME law applies. If not- a horrible precedent is set. While the FBI may be done- the courts are not.

Not that I am an advocate for Blackwater in any sense, but to their credit when Katrina blew through they were the first outside responders to arrive and they did so entirely upon the discretion of their director. They had no orders from the Bush administration or any other branch of the government and no contract of any kind. They simply went in at their own expense when they saw how bad it was. There was no guarantee they would ever recoup a dime yet they were there and did a whole lot better job of responding than FEMA.

Why did FEMA keep the Red Cross out, and take 5 days to get water to the Super Dome, but allow Blackwater to enter and start running up the bill?

meatcleaver -> RE: Blackwater Guards get Immunity (10/30/2007 6:32:35 AM)

According to this article the Iraqi government is trying to remove immunity to get the Blackwater men to be held accountable for the killing of the 17 civilians.

LMAO!  You read my mind. :-)

Black water also shot dead a few -who were loitering. Why was that necessary? If your world was blown apart- you too would be grabbing stuff from the store!  [THINK, everything is detroyed, why is "stuff" -the taking of stuff such a crime? If you back an animal against the wall- it has no choice BUT to agress.][Few will admit it...][no semblence of civilization]

Everything that went wrong in NOLA was pretty much the result ( well after the US Army Corps o Engineers building inadequate infrastructure ) of the dismantling of local Civil Defense. You know, the shit run by Volunteers with a very small, part-time, poorly paid permanent management infrastructure.

Not needing to wait until some jerk-offs in DC finish their group-crackberry session and teleconferencing is really the key to effective preparation, mitigation, rescue and recovery.

Oh, and having money, too. I hear that AIG has THEIR OWN FIRE DEPARTMENT rolling around SoCal spraying PhosCheck around the Million Dollar Homes of their wealthy policy holders...

What are we paying taxes for again, if EFFECTIVE services has devolved back to the Libertarian Model?

FEMA was so inept they didn't even know Blackwater was there until days after they arrived. As for running up the bill, Blackwater went in with no assurance that they would ever be reimbursed a penny. Congress did eventually decide to recompense them when it got around to arranging some funding for all Katrina responders.

How much of that story is just Blackwater PR Bullshit, considering that if the US had waffled on the bill, Blackwater can threaten all the diplomats?

Will voters remember Katrina at the polls?

If the feds didnt want to help fine-so-be it-.  BUT they OBSTRUCTED many many credable sources from helping. Too numerous to denote it as sour grapes.

A team of EMTs turned around en route from Virginia. Help from Chicago. Everywhere tried to send help. Places outside the US as well.
The commen people attempted to HELP!  Walmart truck of bottled water denied!  With lives on the line, why does it matter where the help came from? This was a life and death event-with no time for pompous posturing.

Every American knew that what happened there could happen to them. People that seldon donate- DONATED.

Just imagine if that momentum was harnessed?

Blackwater...Brownshirts..?  Coincidence?  Could it be that Bush is laying the groundwork to give himself immunity for his war crimes after he leaves office?
