Ok I was jsut reading the thread about the "bathtub" cheese that was confiscated or whatever. and it brought to my mind a ranom question.. its off topic so.. i thought this would be the best place to post if not im sorry and please move it.

Do You/you think that drugs (antibiotics and such) are given out to freely and for to many thing now a days? they have taken antibiotics and some other medications off the market for children under 2 because it fuckes with their immune systems. i was wondering how other popel felt about this.. and what they had to say for or agaisnt .. the subject.

H >:)

I dont take antibodies as I have a great immune system and take 50mg of Zinc a day.

pahunkboy -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 1:35:16 PM)

Locally the pendulum has swung the other way. DRs are very stingy with meds. IMO young ones  should be on as little as possible is any. A crappy diet of over processed foods pulls a person down. Eat plenty of fresh produce- chug 90 oz of drinking water- and most germs will expell.

Funny enough- some of the healthiest folks never see a dr. I believe tho- that heart disease- a extreem killer- should be remedied early. It may be inconvenient-but you might avoid by pass surgery or the like later.  I had an uncle refused a 2nd bypass- as he went thru one 8 yrs prior. He passed away. [his choice]

Tho- a non blood realitve blew his brains out last week in Chicago. He made it big in the dot com boom. Now he is gone. I feel sorry for my aunt- who was married to my uncle that passed. It is her brother that expired. First her husband now her brother.

There are some serious problems that have come about because of the over use of antibiotics.  I don't think they should be taken unless they must be.  Let the body fight for itself if it can.  If it can't, then use them.  But blanket statements like I am making can be just as dangerous in a certain situation.  The thing is to find a doctor or other professional that you can trust to consider all aspects and trust them to help you determine whether it is a situation needing medication or not.  Playing doctor can be dangerous... playing with doctors that are dangerous is just as dangerous.  Get informed and be proactive in your own medical care.

PA, I am sorry to hear of the struggles you and your family have had to endure.  I sure hope things smooth out for you all!  My heart goes out to you and I hope my words don't seem to make light of things.

slaverosebeauty -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 1:50:12 PM)

I have been taking anti-biotics for a while now, 2 different ones for 2 different thigns; the first is because I am asthmatic and prone to pnemonia and colds, so its help my body fight off an infection that was starting; the other was Penicillin, because I had 2 wisdom teeth removed a week ago an I will have the other two yanked out this next weekend, so I need to be on anti-biotics to stave off infections.

I don't mind taking meds when I have too, but, I don't take them causally. My immune system is not upt o par yet, but, its getting there; I am taking herbs as I can, but sometimes, anti-biotics are hte best way to help your body.

Hi hot, thanks!  As a kid I knew these men as we went camping in Indiana. We had some great times!

It gets preplexing that as one gets older- more and more deceased persons are part of the "past".  When mom moved to Chicago in April- I took it harder then I thought I would. She is 66. I had to se with my own eyes that she was ok. And she needed to see I was ok- the new landlord- agreed to let me stay on till October, and after he was the legal owner- cut my electric, gas and water. So I had to get out fast. Luckily I was able to buy a foreclosed property. My brother inspected it- and tho I wanted a plan B, he was determined that this was THE only right place. Anyhow- I had to put about 2k into repairs to get the mortgage- [had my bro on standby as he could write a check if the loan fell thru] We closed- in April. Since then- I did insulation, landscape- and now am doing remodling. [cheap labor- per a buddy]
Here I am off topic. LOL.

Ok- Vitamin C, and E- are scientifically shown to help.

Maybe someone can explain why meat is fed hormones.  Ild like to find a rancher that does thinngs naturally. See we cant avoid processed food in the modern world- BUT- with just about anything at out fingertips- we can seek out that which can balance life.

Still: the simplest way I know of -is to chug drinknig water. Not soda- not tea/coffee. W-A-T-E-R.  In the days of the bible- did they reach for a coke/pepsi? nope. They washed feet in olive oil- -
------------- anyhow cravings- and feelings of discontent can often be dehydration.

80 years ago- the old timers KNOW this. Todays population has been brainwashed. [holy grail consume to ya drop]

I am sure this works. My stamina on a 12 hour drive is  much better when I am properly hydrated. Most city tap water is ok- tho I filter mine in a picture and refridgerate it.

BTW- oilive oil does feel good as a foot massage!

Kirren -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 2:01:46 PM)

I would suggest with all of those antibiotics that ANYONE taking them should also eat yogurt.
The antibiotics eat the natural bacteria in the digestive system and can cause significant weight loss and other problems.

Just My opinion.

popeye1250 -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 2:21:17 PM)

No, I doubt it.
A Doctor will tell you right up front that they don't use anti-biotics for viris infections. They're totally inefective.
I recently had a throat infection that was caused by a viris according to my doctor and he said he'd give me a sulpher drug for it and it worked very well.
And Ethromycin as an anti-biotic is becomming very ineffective.

FR

..i think it's pretty much an accepted fact that antibiotics have been over-prescribed.

slaverosebeauty -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 4:38:12 PM)

whats this 'W-A-T-E_R" thing that pahunkboy is talking about??

i have been living on gatorade since i started the anti-biotics and pain meds for a few days after i had my wisdom teeth yanked out. in the last 2 weeks i have lost over 10lbs, the anti-biotics and pain meds sapped my appetite.

pahunkboy -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 4:50:41 PM)

Simple. Clean water frushes the poisons out. It triggers your bodies functions to work.  Ones skin, every organ needs the hydration that water provides- the human is a huge per centage of water. Nature works if you let it.

Rushemery -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 4:58:07 PM)

real garlic is supposed to kill more virus's than anti-biotics but it make you stink, I think cauliflower will help with that both raw and no the garlic pills dont really work. garlic also lowers your blood pressure.

I think it depends on the Dr some want to fill you with pills all the time.

Slaverosebeauty-- My boss's wife took a lot of anti-biotics for some reason and ended up killing all the bacteria in her intestines-----there is a name for it but Im sorry i cant recall it or thats what they think caused it and it has really caused her a lot of problems so you should really find a way to boost that good bacteria in your system.

I try to go natural as best as I can so I dont use (normally) anything but garlic and am around huge amounts of other peoples ums and dont get sick often

cyberdude611 -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 5:52:52 PM)

First off, antibiotics will do NOTHING against a virus (unless the virus causes a bacterial infection).

Second, when you use anti-biotics on a regular basis...not only does the bacteria get stronger but your immune system becomes weaker. Your immune system will actually stay stronger by continuously fighting infection. That's why doctors and nurses or people who frequently work in hospitals have better immune systems. They are exposed to viruses and bacteria on a regular basis. When you use antibiotics on a regular basis, it kills off all the bacteria and your body never learns how to fight the next infection.

Obviously sometimes you need an antibiotic to get the infection under control so it doesnt spread. But I think 2 big mistakes are being made....
1. People treat antibiotics as the easy way out. They think it is a magic pill that will cure anything and expect to get it whenever they go to the doctor.
2. People do not finish the course of antibiotics... they take a few doses...feel better and choose to stop the treatment and save the rest of the pills for next time.

Both of these are the reason why we now have problems with superbugs like MRSA.

I am guessing that the Dr who prescribed the one for your teeth is not the same one that prescribed the other antibiotic. Do they know you are on two different ones right now? I would think that would be too much antibiotics at one time.

On another note, my UM is asthmatic and doctors tend to prescribe antibiotics pretty quickly for him because of the effects infection has on his asthma. The simplest thing can trigger breathing problems, and something that would be minor for someone with a healthy immune system will knock down an asthmatic pretty quickly.

Hope you feel better soon!

As someone who has suffered from MRSA twice the over prescription of antibiotics is something that really needs to be looked at. I was seriously ill at the time I got MRSA and the hospital was left with a choice of only 2 antibiotics to fight it and they were seriously strong ones.

One of the concerns with some in the medical profession is that we are all becoming too clean. We are using more and more cleaning products with antibacterial properties which are damping down our bodies ability to fight things without intervention. Some doctors believe that the increase in some diseases such as asthma are caused by our bodies suppressed immune system.

ChicagoSwitchMal -> RE: The Human Immune System and Antibiotics (10/29/2007 6:17:19 PM)

Medicine is in a constant search for better truths. Constantly refining the definition of care. Sometimes they get off base completely (exorcisms come to mind) but in general it represents progress. Anti-biotics were over prescribed for sure. But I'd hate to live in the world if they didn't exist. The truth has just been refinded a little more and enti-biotics, meds in general, are being pulled back a bit.
