I am so unbelievably curious to find out if anyone else on this site is LDS??? Every time I browse a profile I find that "mormonism" is usually under dislike or tolorate. I get it... most of us aren't liberal or open minded but for the few and far between, I know I for one feel very isolated. Are my husband/Dom and I the ONLY kinky LDS people out there into BDSM or what? Just curious like I already stated. Thanks for your time.

I think the Mormon's have a great little religion going on...take care of their own...all that.

I dated a Mormon chic back in the late 70's, thought it was rocking....didn't know much about the whole thing....and then Mr. Kimball (The High Muckey Muck, council of 12...all that) one day came out in the press (after there was all kinds of hell to pay because black people couldn't rise above Elder) and said "GAWWWWWWD came to me in a vision and he told me black people could rise higher in the church....so now we're  going to allow black people to rise to (some level above elder....but NOOOOOT to the council of 12)"

And I remember thinking to myself (not knowing previously that black people couldn't become King or whatever it was at the top of the chain in the Mormon church)..."Hmmmm....so, God...the Creator of the universe and all that stuff...including Hostess Hohos and V8 engines....has suddenly decided on a Thursday that black people are good enough to be more than elders in the Mormon church eh?"

And I remember thinking...."well what about last Wednesday?....or 3,843 Wednesday's before that?"

At which point I decided that if the Mormon church was run by a guy who's connection to Gawwwwwd.....was of such nominal consequence that he missed Gawwwwwwds words all these years before (considering that, as far as I could tell, black people didn't just suddenly obtain 49 quotients of I (as in IQ) just in one afternoon, and that they seemed to be handling things fairly well on their own without Mr Kimballs sudden revelation....I figured their Gawwwwd....wasn't the one I was planning on listening to.

(Just a thought).

(But hey....for a bunch of folks that hate the whole concept of caffiene....they sure make a nice product for the masses....Coke).

By the way....no offense meant towards Mormons....honestly....I was just put off by his "vision".

LDS was one of the religions I tried out when I was younger. ( even baptised in ) I have 2 books of Mormon on in shelf still as referance books. Right next to my collection of Bibles, and other books like that.

The group I belonged to was very close knit.. and caring.

A friends group her whole family was involved with was the scariest, and worst of the worst... we are talking about if you even *look* like you are gonna head twords acting like a Jack or a Jill ( non Mormon morals.. or secular ) off to boot camp you go. I have seen folks just disapear, and come back brain washed. Her church group where of the Fundimental/Radical sort. I helpped her get out of it.. and with my connections kept her from disapearing.

Kinky people will be kinky.. period.. but some church groups.. ( any actualy have the abilty ) have the ability to dampen that down.

I just like being me. & I like everybody who is cool with letting folks be who they are.

Gwyn

More accruately stated: "You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly without the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind...the Lord put a mark on him, which is the flat nose and black skin" -- LDS President/Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, pp. 290-291.

Saying that Mormons have a history of racism is like saying that Republicans have a history of opposing abortion -- it's more than a quote or two, it's sacred policy supported by endless publications. Watching Mormon leaders grapple with this KKK-to-MLK conversion, one has to believe that the "god" that spoke racist death threats and discrimination through Mormon prophets and elders changed his holy mind in 1978 and is now not so upset (though apparently his physical "curses" are still with the dark-skinned big-nosed among us, eh?).

I'm a descendent of former LDS Presdient Snow (through my paternal grandmother's side), so I've had to deal with this (and other) teachings for, well, a long time. There's a difference between an racist "Christian" preacher and a racist Mormon President: The preacher is just preaching his own (mis)interpretation, whereas when the President in Mormonism is the high prophet so his word is authoritative (somewhat like the Pope, though the eccesiastical office is different).  You can't play the "that was then, this is now" game when you claim to be God's infallible mouthpiece.

A black Mormon president would be about as odd as a Pat Roberson-funded clinic escort.

[*lights a cigar, waiting for the predictable LDS whining and spinning to begin*    *yawn*]

Sorry I just find it hard to believe in somereligion that says when I die some redneck coloinist is going to judge my soul. So when I die and if I see that smuck in the after life I'll walk right up to him and......Ask him for some of those Mormon bibles cause the toilets in Hell are out of paper

Also I agree with Xain on the racist aspect of their god, if you truly are almighty then you don't make mistakes. I wonder what that conversation was like
God: " UM yeah I fucked up Blacks aren't so bad so they're not all going to hell."
Preist: "WTF?!

I think this is why I don't understand the issues here.  I live in a country where for the most part church is something other people do.  I'm Jewish, but non-observant.  We have chassidic relatives, but they're out on a limb of the family and we only see them about once every few years.  We have our catholics and our protestants, too, but again, if they're going to church, we're not hearing about it, apart from one Aunt who carries a bible everywhere.  Over here the norm is to be non-religeous but general respectful of a belief in God.  In the US it seems that you have to go to church or you're strange.  I guess when you live in a country that has previously resorted to burning people at the stake for setting foot in the wrong church it gives you a different perspective on how destruction religeon can be.

Well I don't go to church and was raised in a buddhist/Shintoist/Taoist home, and so far no mob of tourch waying Prudes. But then again more that four people at my door are greeted with gunshots. Actually its a recording but they don't know that.

MissSCD -> RE: LDS, Mormonism whatever you wanna call it... (10/29/2007 11:16:41 AM)

Moronism is not for me.  The only thing I have ever wondered is how many of us who participate in the poly aspect of the life are actually Mormon.  I am Baptist.  You know that won't work together.

Regards, MissSCD
