Sanity -> BOO! Hillary Haunted By Her Cat... (10/26/2007 7:04:31 AM)

quote:

As the “first pet” of the Clinton era, Socks, the White House cat, allowed “chilly” Hillary Clinton to show a caring, maternal side as well as bringing joy to her daughter Chelsea. So where is Socks today?

Once the presidency was over, there was no room for Socks anymore. After years of loyal service at the White House, the black and white cat was dumped on Betty Currie, Bill Clinton’s personal secretary, who also had an embarrassing clean-up role in the saga of his relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky.

Some believe the abandoned pet could now come between Hillary Clinton and her ambition to return to the White House as America’s first female president.

Clinton has been boosting her prospects in the past week with some homespun references to her gender as part of a series of events with the theme Women Changing America, during which she chatted girlfriend-to-girlfriend and mom-to-mom with female voters.

The softening of Clinton’s image seems to be working. Her chief strategist, Mark Penn, predicts that up to a quarter of Republican women will vote for her. She leads Democratic rivals in the polls by 26 points and is scooping up more donations to her war chest from Wall Street and defense contractors than any candidate from either party – an unmistakable indicator of who they think will win in 2008.

I wonder if the cat blew him.

Her "image?"
So, just like her husband she's all sizzle and no steak.
Or as they say in Texas, all hat and no cattle.

Or maybe when they left Washington DC and moved to NYC so she could run for the Senate they moved into a building that didn't allow pets so they found a new home for Socks like any responsible pet owner in such a position.

Thease are cheap shots: who thinks it was "dumped". The most likely the cat found new loving home. There are much more serious problems with H. Clinton candidacy to discuss:  Fist of all her total lack of experience and very vague platform regarding all important issues.

Sanity -> RE: BOO! Hillary Haunted By Her Cat... (10/26/2007 12:32:34 PM)

They're claiming that her cat was just a prop for her acting career, and they may well have a point. If correct, it points to something more serious than just how she uses living things when they're convenient for her, and disgards them when they're no longer useful. It points to her cold and calculating ways, and how she's likely just a plastic image molded by her P.R. team

Look, I'm no friend of the Left, but if the Democrats really want to win in '08 they need to be more careful who they nominate. We put up someone like George W. Bush twice and won. Doesn't that even suggest to anyone even a little bit that maybe, just maybe, the Democrats are sending up losers???

popeye1250 -> RE: BOO! Hillary Haunted By Her Cat... (10/27/2007 9:51:38 AM)

And she voted for that "Dream Act" too.
She, along with all the other 99 Senators know that Americans are against any type of amnesty for illegal aliens by more than 95%, she's running for president and she votes for the "Dream Act" and she thinks she'll be elected?
Sanity's right. The Democrats keep shooting themselves in the foot.
And they do it over and over again.
It's pretty bad when they can be beaten by the likes of George Bush!
Mitt Romney is doing very well because he's talking about enforcing our immigration laws and getting that Mexican border secured.
Now Wudy is even trying to jump on the bandwagon by talking about those things as well.
And Hillary Clinton goes and votes for the "Dream Act?"
Most Democrats don't even want it.
Us Independant voters don't want it.
Most Republican voters are pissed at Bush for not enforcing the immigration laws and not securing that border.
Who does she think is going to vote for her?
She must have a new experimental strategy; "Let's piss the voters off and see if they'll vote for us."

I said in another thread that Sen. Clinton won't get more than 42% of the vote.
I think I was being too optimistic.

Fuck!!! Fuck!!!  Goddammit!!! I hate to agree with Sanity.....But look at the kind of shitfucks  the Dems have been nominating.....I have always believed that Republicans have to lose elections....But Jesus Fucking Christ!!!! They (the Reps) have been trying their best to just  hand over the White House....Do the Dems not see that Hillary is unelectable?  She is scarier to most Americans than the prospect of gay marriage!!!.....I'm sickened by the Dems, repulsed by the Reps....

Thinks I shall go jerk off.

Hillary didn't move to a building in NYC, she moved to a huge mansion upstate.  Hey I am no fan of Hillaries, but this is a big nothing.  If she had killed the cat, or left it in the woods,we would have something to talk about here.  She was going to the Senate, so she could have left the cat at home with Bill, or find it a new home, or killed it.  Cat is probably very happy where it is.

Good point, lucky. A factor in the decision may have been that Senator Clinton would be shuttling between two places (NY and DC) and not able to give Socks the attention he needs. Either she'd need to haul Socks around (which cats don't like) or leave him alone (with visits from a sitter, I trust) for stretches. He might indeed be happier with Ms. Currie. I wonder why Chelsea didn't take him, though.

Wasn't Chelsea off at Oxford at the time?

luckydog1 -> RE: BOO! Hillary Haunted By Her Cat... (10/27/2007 11:07:35 AM)

I don't think Chelsea leads a life conducive to pet ownership at this time in her life, and there is no reason to assume that  her life should have been organised around her parent's pet.  I love animals, and am not a Clinton fan, but there isn't anything here to criticise.  Life situation changes, so found a new home for the cat (with someone the cat already knew).  That is responsible pet ownership.

The things people spend time on! Poor cat - dumb people.
