I thought I had already posted this.

I watched that video and I must say I am impressed. He managed to do it without being offensive, and even sticking up for victims in a way.

That's why he's good. [:D]

I like Carlin but was concerned by the video title.  I watched it and agree with what you said.  Talk about someone who can take a horrible subject and let you relax while bringing it to light.

Then again, having worked in emergency medical services for 7 years, I learned that even the biggest attrocities sometimes can only be emotionally dealt with through laughter.

So, you didn't have faith in me....... [;)]

I am able and willing to laugh at pretty much anything, but that doesn't mean I don't care, or that I'm being hateful. It's just a way of trying to stay sane.

And how you do it, does matter.

I know!  Shocking, isn't it! It hit me hard when I saw George's age here.  Where does time go....

greetings

only a man would say a silly thing a horrible thing like that, now mind everyone i did not read the post but to say rape is funny is just crazy. i remember sometime ago they made a moive that had a officer who handle woman who had been raped. he was not very kind to this these and just did not care, but then he was raped but a group of men . i remember the shame and horroe they show on his face and how the other police person treat him. it was a lesson learned

mons...while I absolutely feel compassion for your sister and for you, I have to respectfully disagree.  This may appear insensitive.  I don't mean it to be.

First, I concur with the comments above that sometimes humour is the best way to deal with pain.  Jokes have spontaneously popped up almost immediately after, for instance, Princess Dianna's death, 9/11, etc.  Perhaps, among other factors, it helps us defuse the tension.

But also, if comedians had to determine their material on "what will offend no one"...well, they'd have a lot less material.  Part of that means that, occasionally, many of us will be in one of the groups that gets offended.  I think that, as part of society, in those cases we've gotta "take one for the team".

But that's a man talking, right?  Well, how about jokes that include, say, castration?  A terrible thing that could happen to a guy.  Or impotence...premature ejaculation...prostate cancer...baldness (note the pic)...whatever.  I might find it funny, or I might not.  But I'm not going to say "don't joke about that, cuz my Dad died of prostate cancer and some day I might too".

Also, I take issue with the "I didn't read the post, but..." and also that, I'm guessing, you didn't watch the video (well, listen to it; it was mostly just audio with a picture of George).  He did do a very good job of saying "rape isn't funny?  Well, think about this..."

I don't condone rape (well, non-consentual rape...and this is one of the few areas & communities where THAT would have to be added, because 'something like it' is right there on our interests list).  I don't condone mysoginistic joking around about it.  But I also won't agree with "you can't joke about ___" fill in the blank.  You can't have "free speech...except for___".  Who gets to fill in the blank?  And what would the end result be?

My $.02 anyway.
