I have noticed a fairly large number of members in the Nashville area lately. I have been thinking... I am posting here to see what sort of interest there might be in a munch in the Nashville area. A CM meet and greet of sorts. Fox and I would be doing the arranging, and of course people not local to Nashville would be more than welcome to attend. As bad as it sounds, I dont really want to try and organize it if no one is going to want to attend. Honestly, if there is a good showing, I would have no problem making it a regular meeting and all that. Id even consider a yahoo group, or other some such meeting area for it. For now, this is testing the waters. Phase 1: check interest on forums Phase 2: possibly PM a few people in the area to say hey and ask... Phase 3: Try to take over the WORLD!!! :) DV and Fox

Aren't there several existing munches in Nashville? It's been a few years, but I recall meeting some of those folks when I presented in Chattanooga. John

There might very well be. I havent run across any here in Nashville though. There are others outside Nashville, in Memphis and elsewhere. But even if there are others, that doesnt mean that those of us CMers might not enjoy one. Too many munches arent a bad thing... DV

I certainly don't think there can be too many munches. Though there are advantages to established groups, including educational programs (verifiable real time information), workshops, presentations, existing venues for meetings, dungeon space, etc. This group comes recommended if you're interested: http://www.nla-nashville.org/home.htm John

The Mark hosts a munch every month, along with pizza and poker nights, BDSM movie nights, etc. And, of course, the regular play nights at the club. :) The Mark's Calendar Edited to add: I believe the NLA is now defunct. wg

I do get to go to The Mark once in a while but have never attended any of the munches down there. It's a couple hour drive for me and usually the night they are held is not convenient for my schedule. I would be interested in going DV if you get one planned.

At first not alot of people will show up. Put notices wherever you can think of. Message boards, Adult toy stores, email groups,etc. and considering not alot of people who are members of this site post/read the forums, maybe email the people in Nashville. The problem I have with the Mark is the exclusivity. You have to be a member or a guest of a member in order to even attand anything (unless the munchs are different) As good as I am sure that is for privacy issues and all, I think an easily accessable munch held, say, at a restaurant or hotel would be a lot more inviting to some people who are not quite as public yet. Everyone knows what the Mark is, and going to an event there tells others what you are into. Going to a munch at a restaurat doesnt inadvertantly out anyone. At some point Id like to visit the Mark, but I am considering doing something a little more vanilla in outward appearance. Maybe I am looking at it a little strangely, I know. And I will definately keep the updates going on here. I definately plan on contacting some of the Nashville and surrounding area members of the site to see if they might want to come, keep it fairly small at first until I get my bearings on organizing. Then, who knows? DV

Actually, unless it's changed, the CPI/The Mark munch is held in a public place and open to anyone. As far as I know, it always has been and it gives people an opportunity to meet members who would be willing to sponsor them as a guest. There's a description of the munch and the location here. I'm not at all trying to dissuade you from planning a munch. The more events, the merrier. I'm just tossing it out there, so you don't reinvent the wheel if you don't want to. Best of luck, wg

I think we'd certainly enjoy ourselves at a munch. :-) It's just a matter of patience, planning, and perserverence. And, of course, when it comes to planning...there's no rush. If we can get a nice, firm foundation...I think that'd be wonderful. Meeting new people is always fun.

Nashville has several munches!!!!! They have a freakin AWESOME dungeon and throw a hell of a Halloween party!!! We just had a great puppy/kitten play demo! writer girl is correct the munch is held in a public place and then if folks want too they can visit the Mark! NLA has disbanded, hence the education demos at the Mark. There is also the TN Flame a female group. And others ... ~J~

I would still like to make one of my own, but it is good to know there are a good number of others. Making sure I dont plan anything up against a major event would be a good first step. Being the incurable social butterfly that I am, I may have to start getting out to some of them. And planning my own would just be fun. Thanks for the correction, though. EVeryone I had speoken to previously had told me about the Mark being exclusive, but never about a public munch and place to meet a possible sponsor. That does certainly soften the edges a touch. DV

In my experience, the Mark isn't exclusive in the way, say, a country club is exclusive. They're very welcoming. Though I don't know first hand, I would guess that the reason for membership has much to do with making sure that gawkers aren't around. Anyone who has gone to open clubs has experienced the "vanilla audience" phenomenon, I'm sure. As far as the munch, here's a couple suggestions from someone whose very first steps out into the community were to organize a munch: - Choose a restaurant with a variety of foods available, including vegetarian dishes - Try to get a head-count so you can give the restaurant a number. If it's large enough, try to get a back room. In any event, ask if there's a secluded place you can have in the restaurat. - If you are going to disallow fetishwear (which is my strong suggestion, with the exception of regularly worn collars and such, of course), make sure it's very clear in e-mails. - Consider whether you want things like name-tags. Some munches have them, some don't. Pros and cons each way. Just a few suggestions. Take what works and dump the rest. [:D] Good luck to you!
