I think it's kind of funny that people would attach any significance to what Mayan indians thought 600 years ago but if the Jehovah's Witnesses or some other holy rollers said the same thing they'd be summarily dismissed.
Hmm, it must be that "mysticism" thing that's somehow attached to Indians.
None of those groups have passed my *one simple test* yet!

They, "know the secrets of the Universe" but....they can't give me the powerball numbers! WTF!

I somehow don't quite see the end of the world happening. I think it's more to do with the end of an age.

Personally I'm going by the astrological significance of the planet Pluto entering the sign of Aquarius late in 2011, which I kind of predict will bring 14 years of social upheaval and revolution and this will be what we have come to call 'The Age of Aquarius'.

The end of this Age should therefore come around 2025, 2026.

This kind of fits in with a pattern of major social upheaval we already know about throughtout the 20th Century with wars and revolutions.

I'm basing this on a basic knowledge of astrology, of history and checking certain dates in an epheremis.

I could be wrong, but then again I could be right. I might live long enough to find out. Then again I might not. Who knows?

The Mayan calander is extremely accurate, but ends on 12/21/2012. Some people have taken this to mean that the end of the world  will happen then. What does everyone think, does the world end then, and if so, how? Or did the Mayans just get tired and stop calculating?

I recently watched a TV program on The History Channel that explained of a very rare alignment of the earth, moon, sun, and black hole in the center of our galaxy, on that particular date. This event allegedly occurs every 25,000 years, or so. The program also suggested that the earth's magnetic poles may (will?) shift on this date too, potentially causing events of catastrophic proportions.

Thats all a misinterpretation.   and its 2050 if I remember correctly.

I have posted this more than once but here is again:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5547481422995115331

I would skip maybe the first 5 minutes of it, and it will show you the origins of all this.

enjoy

Bring it on!

Seriously though, what would the point be in knowing when the world will actually end? Panic would be the result, and I'd rather go out oblivious to the screaming horde of humanity.
I wouldn't up and change my life in because I worry about an afterlife, I'd just rather not know the date and time.

Scientifically speaking, the Mayans were light-years ahead of us.  They didn't have the industry to produce things like computers and such- as they never went through the Industrial Revolution- but their scientists were utterly brilliant.  They've made predictions that we've only begun to understand when Einstein came out with his Relativity theories; before then, the math they used seemed like gibberish.

There may be some truth to their predictions.

Hey, just realized, it is Bob Barker's birthday on Dec. 12th, so if he is still alive by then, it brings new meaning to all of us sinners when he screams...

COME ON DOWNNNNNNNN!

Oh please.  Explain to me what Einstein's Theory of Relativity has to do with Mayan mathematics.  I'm dying to hear this one.

I will let CuriousLord answer for himself though I can say, simply put, that before Einstein discovered the 'ol E=mc2, we could not unlock Mayan mathematics nor fully understand it until this theory was supposed. Things became much more clear anyway by the putting forward of Einstein's theorum which enabled mathematicians to better understand the mathematics of the Maya. The Maya actually worked from a similar, not same, theory which we could not understand until we had developed one similar of our own. E=mc2 really blockbustered the ability to understand ancient mathematics, not just of the Maya.

As for predictions, I tend to shy away from that whole concept as I wouldn't want to know anyway.

Be Well,

EG

Well, the truth is that Mayan mathematics has nothing whatsoever to do with relativity or quantum mechanics or God knows what, but you people can believe whatever you'd like.

I'd make up something, but I'm afraid I'm a bit pressed for time to research Mayan philosohy enough to fudge it.

So, maybe later.
