rubberpet -> Hurricanes Katrina and Rita revisited..... (10/22/2007 9:42:38 AM)

The Schwinn bicycle company has created a commemorative bicycle to mark the anniversaries of the disasters of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita called the FEMA style.  It has no handle bars and no seat.  The bicycle is made for those that lost their asses and don't know which way to turn!  Thanks FEMA, even to this day, you still help out!

Shame that this joke is so damned true!

Yes, it is a shame that this joke is very true.  I was one of the blessed few that lost nothing in either hurricane.  Katrina was far enough east where all I experienced was a little rain.  Rita hit about 70 miles west of where I live.  We were out of power for days and the area looked like a warzone, but my home sustained no damage.  So many weren't as lucky.  FEMA managed to turn a disaster into a complete fuck up.  Our wonderful government manage to send millions of dollars to the south Pacific for the tsunami that hit a few years back and aid other countries with their disasters, but couldn't manage to get aid to the New Orleans and Cameron areas to help their own citizens.  Pitiful...absolutely pitiful.

I managed to evacuate just hours before Katrina hit. My ground floor apt was toatally
destroyed and I lost everything but what I carried with me.

I was in St. Bernard Parrish which sustained more damage than NO We were under 30 ft of water. It took a month for the water to recede.

One of the things people who weren't there don't realize about Katrina is the shear magnatude of distruction. Of course there were and are problems in recovery. At this point in time it does no good to complain. Just do what you can to recover.

As far as FEMA is concerned and the  Red Cross I have no complaints. Within 3 months
I was in an apartment with new furniture right down to the pots and pans. I think the reason I got such good service is that I was the only survivor in NW Oklahoma.

rubberpet I'm glad you didn't get hit like most of us.

I'm now in a place that hurricanes don't go and I'm far enough West of Tornado Alley
that I don't have to worry to much. All the nasty weather that hit OK and TX this summer
missed me. So I feel relatively safe.

I didn't find your "joke" funny.

Every day I get little reminders that I lost this or that to Katrina and it still hurts.

I've lived in Louisiana my entire life and know that hurricanes are no joke.  I've seen the destruction they can do first hand.  I was not making fun of anyone that endured these tragedies, I was making fun of the government and the way they let our friends and families down with their lack of response and efforts.  I know quite a few people who were dicked over by FEMA and the Red Cross, so there is no love lost to those organizations.  Please accept my apologies if my joke offended you and please accept my condolences for all your losses.
