Actually, the more I read that article the more it reads like slick advertisement copy, one of those sentimental propaganda stories telling us how Filth Oil International or Barren Earth Logging Corporation is trying to save the planet and improve the lives of the poor. It wouldn't be the first time naive rural people have been used and sold a pig in a poke by international corporations trying to get at the resources on the land of poor rural people.
Call me cynical but I've never come across a venal capitalist wanting to improve the lives of the poor unless they can see a pay check in it for themselves.
