VATICAN CITY (AP) -- The Vatican said Saturday it has suspended a monsignor from a senior post at the Holy See after an Italian TV program using a hidden camera recorded him making advances to a young man and asserting that gay sex was not sinful.

They say "young man"- but no where does it make the point that this "young man" was a minor, and it seems to dwell on the point that it was "gay" before any age qualms.

It seems that the Church just banned a member for quite possibly being gay.  That's a shame.

Then again, one must remember that religions work on whimsical, comforting assumptions.  These would include anti-gay sentiments if the organization is surficiently homophobic.

Since we must respect religion, we must respect homophobia.

They could sure solve a lot of problems if they would allow marriage. These problems or not inherently Catholic but the result of trying to suppress the sex drive.

At least give them a choice of celibacy. Who cares today about the personal property problems? I believe that was one of the reasons for celibacy to begin with.

Apparently this guy also said he knows several high ranking vatican officials that are homosexual.

People are obviously making a big deal of this because the Vatican in recent years has taken a strong stance against homosexuality.

And disturbingly, bent over backwards regarding child abuse.

A reappraisal of their positions is clearly in order.

"Since we must respect religion, we must respect homophobia".

This is why we must absolutely keep church and state ,separated.

Just to many kooks,to be given that kind of power.

We could tie this in with the thread on zero population growth as a positive thing. No pregnancy, no need to get into the whole hassel of whether birth control is a sin, and no additions to the population load on the planet. It would be a win/win/win situation, right?

Butch:
The personal property thing is a big big big deal.  Think of all the educated men and women who work for the church for essentially nothing more than room and board.  Multiply that  by the  hundreds of thousands of the clergy and the thousands of years it has been going on.  Nice work if you can get it.
