I got that from the "Good Times" episode "James' Funeral" when Florida was frustrated.  I was getting all excited to get some more out of the "One True Way" thread and it got cancelled.

Man I feel the same way I did when "Good Times" got cancelled.  I'll need some TLC this Friday.

While I'm at it, this week has brought out some very interested threads, posts and feelings from Interracial D/s relationships to Grandma's Vibe and The God thingie over in Ask A Master.

Looking forward to what's next!

Z-

I have not seen Good Times in years, and lost track of it before the final episodes, when I got married and got into all the hassle of moving away and all that adult stuff that comes with it. I did not know that James had died in the episode. It seems crazy, but when I read that, I felt a pang like I would when hearing that a long lost friend had passed away.

James Evans (as portrayed by John Amos) was only on the first three seasons of the 6 seasons (actually 5 and a half) that Good Times aired.  He didn't like the stories when the JJ character got popular.  In the beginning of Season 4, the Evan's were supposed to be relocating down to Mississippi because James had got a job managing and co owning a body shop and he was killed (off camera) in a car crash on the way.

The "Damn Damn Damn" segment of that episode is supposedly the first time that was heard on network television, after the threw the punch bowl and shattered it. It's pretty emotional.

In those days we didn't have the mass media we have now. I was 11 that year and I remember during the opening credits I didn't' see his name and I mentioned that to my mother when we were watching it.  She said they probably made a mistake.  Now we would have known in advance that he wasn't coming back due to contract issues or story issues, LOL.

Good times is a neat show.

I particularly liked the episode where- JJ eloped to Indiana, only to discover his lady was an alcoholic and druggie.

the episode when Pennys "real" mom came back to Melona and tried to take her and it failed. [she had been abused]

what im trying to say- is the show was not the bubble head crap that seems to be everywhere.

..switch to satlelite if possible as i think it is on there

TV One shows Good Times like they were shown on CBS (Nick At Nite had edited versions and cut a few scenes out).

It was a real good show, but both Esther Rolle (Florida) and John Amos (James) didn't like the buffoonish character of Jimmie Walker (JJ).

What's interesting is the age differences.  John Amos used heavy make up and hair styles to look similar in age to Esther Rolle who was 15 years older than him.  Jimmie Walker was only 8 years younger than John Amos.

JJ sorta made the show tho.  I  grew  up in Chicago and the pics of the old EL cars- bring back memories.

I was young and energetic then. Now I just want to quietly enjoy life.....  A metro isnt necessary for what Ild like.

The episode were Florida asked the DR to stay.... and oh-- the episode of the bad roast at the grocer was good too.

Don't you get Good Times in re-runs? I do!!

My fave: when the neighbor lady makes meatloaf and they think it is cat food. LOL.

I sometimes liked to mess with the kiddlins and tell them I made 'goodtimes' meatloaf and laugh my ass off.  Now that re-runs are on, they don't find it amusing.
