SeeksOnlyOne -> thing that made me go hmmmm.... (10/11/2007 5:30:05 PM)

im not a revolutionary or anything....pretty much a chick that enjoys life, and i really try to avoid raging against the machine, because it does no good most times, and just irritates the hell out of me.

so ill sleep on this and tomorrow ill file it in a part of my brain, if i have any left.....but this made me go hmmmmmmm in so many ways.

i had to go to a grouchylunchlady awards thingy and it was at a high school-there were kids running on the sidewalks near the school-and there was a recruiter! in uniform! standing there trying to hand them literature as they ran by.

i dont even have words for the emotions it made me feel, yet. nor do i have an explanation for why it seemed so important to me.....

so here is my hmmmmmmmm

happy damn near friday

How old were they?

The way this war has been set up,today`s middle schoolers, could easily be shipped off to Al Anbar,or Fullusia,or maybe "sunny" Badhdad.

....if an anti war person started handing out leaflets next to the recruiter would they be treated equally? Clearly under law they ought to be, but would it be the case?

The military is a valid career path. And one that got me started into adulthood. I do not regret a minute. I do not object to recruiters handing out leaflets. I do object to the conduct of some military recruters though and they can be as pushy as a crack dealer turned used car salesman. Parents need to educate their children on their opinions of military service and regardless of whether one's opinion is poor or favorable of military service kids need to know the harsh realities of service. Federal law outright bans prohibition of recruiters from public schools. Colleges aren't banned. Trade schools aren't banned. Why should the military be banned? it can be a real career. If military recruiters are more agreesive than the others then who's fault is that?

Back when I was in high-school I used to get frequent cold-calls from military recruiters using the phone numbers they got from my school records. At first I'd try to explain that I wasn't medically qualified (I'm a severe acute asthmatic) and they'd question me, practically argue with me, as if I'm going to fake it to a recruiter. Eventually I'd ask them to hold and just leave it off the hook. I can't imagine how annoying it must be to high-schoolers now that the military is desperate and recruiters are terrified of missing their quotas and getting shipped to Iraq themselves.

i joined the army at 19 and it made me grow up......was the best thing i could have done and i have no regrets at all.....i am still great friends with a gal i was a roomie with at ft dix all these years later....

my son is 19 now, and i have thought much about suggesting to him that he join up....but the events going on right now make me unable to do that.   is it my disgust at the events or my fear of him being killed?   i think it is my disgust, because i worry about him every time he drives out of the driveway.  who knows though.

he gets calls from recruiters all the time......and they came to visit his school regularly.  i have no problem with that at all.  presenting their info in school, at an assembly, or even one on one.

but standing on the sidewalk 2 blocks from a school, stopping kids who are concentrating on their health and exercising, that bugs me.  i have no idea why, but it does....

Things that make Me go hmmmm: when I eat grapes, and then 20 minutes later, I go poo, I peer down into the toilet bowl, and there are the grapes I munched on earlier, in perfect form.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Hmmm... I wonder how many of these "Recruiters" are actually pedophiles and other sickos who found a good way to hide.

And if so, I'm hoping that the kids stab the fucking pedophiles dead when they're approached.
