ORIGINAL: ChicagoSwitchMal The military is a valid career path. And one that got me started into adulthood. I do not regret a minute. I do not object to recruiters handing out leaflets. I do object to the conduct of some military recruters though and they can be as pushy as a crack dealer turned used car salesman. Parents need to educate their children on their opinions of military service and regardless of whether one's opinion is poor or favorable of military service kids need to know the harsh realities of service. Federal law outright bans prohibition of recruiters from public schools. Colleges aren't banned. Trade schools aren't banned. Why should the military be banned? it can be a real career. If military recruiters are more agreesive than the others then who's fault is that? i joined the army at 19 and it made me grow up......was the best thing i could have done and i have no regrets at all.....i am still great friends with a gal i was a roomie with at ft dix all these years later.... my son is 19 now, and i have thought much about suggesting to him that he join up....but the events going on right now make me unable to do that. is it my disgust at the events or my fear of him being killed? i think it is my disgust, because i worry about him every time he drives out of the driveway. who knows though. he gets calls from recruiters all the time......and they came to visit his school regularly. i have no problem with that at all. presenting their info in school, at an assembly, or even one on one. but standing on the sidewalk 2 blocks from a school, stopping kids who are concentrating on their health and exercising, that bugs me. i have no idea why, but it does....
