greetings to all has anyone of you read the story in the new two days ago? the man was a prosecutor and he made plans to buy a 5 years girl. when they arrested him the kill himself . he had a family and i though it was so sick he knew the the pain he would cause he wife and family but he wants did not matter at all to anyone. he made this plans for a long time. it makes me so sad a child at 5 i find it hard to understand what the hell he was thinking. he took the shamefully way out and left his family to arsines the question he could had answer. now here is the big question he must likely abuse his children with terror and they most like were scare to death i wonder if and and when they will find out what Else he did. this is why to catch a predator was so important and it did take many sicko off the street. i do believe that so many abuse of children get off , they have powerful people who have the same likes as he did . Sadly, intellect and power is not a guarantee that one isn't a sicko. Recently in Australia there was a police effort that broke a pedophile ring. The members included senior police officers, a judge, a doctor and, disturbingly, a pediatrician and a male nurse who works at a major childrens hospital. Pedophiles come in all shapes, sizes and from all social strata.

The powerful and affluent are people with perversions, fetishes, and DEMONS too. Look at the clergy. Molesting young boys since the time of Christ. The only difference between them and the rest of us is money. They can pay to keep their stuff hush hush. Buying a 5year old child...for what purpose? Did it say? Adoption or sick perversion? That's what isn't stated. As far as keeping it from his family ...how may of our family members know that we're on a site like this? What would they think of us? We're all human. It's sick and I'm not downplaying it...but do you have a link to the story? I'd like to know more.

I think sick is exactly the right word - and as yet it seems, there is no cure for these people. Prison only has the benefit of keeping them off the streets for a short time - in the UK the sentences are pitifully weak, they serve only half of them and get time off for the period of incarceration prior to trial; then theyre back out in the world, still subject to the same compulsions. But what do we do with such people? There's some indication that castration is a solution for the males - but there are enough females involved in this stuff too, would you believe? But is that enough? I have to confess, that with two children at home, I wouldnt be at all comfortable if a convicted paedophile lived in my street, even if he'd been castrated. I might be just about comfortable if he wore an orange jumpsuit 24/7 so everyone knew who he was - but then, his life expectancy would be about zero. And there is the issue with castration, that its supposedly an infringement of his civil rights and therefore not allowed. But, if we see this activity for what I believe it is - a sickness of the mind, and its permissible to drug people stupid who are diagnosed with other sicknesses of the mind, then I dont see how his rights are being infringed by way of potential cure? Otherwise, the only satisfactory solution for me is full term life imprisonment because I'm sorry, his rights to walk the streets end when he is a danger to children in the same way that one's rights to walk the street end when one is a danger to others because of psychopathology. He committed suicide in his cell, even though he was on suicide watch. As far as can be determined his own family was not involved, including his UMs. Most of his life was dedicated towards doing good but he had this secret hell inside of him, and eventually it came out. Now he will be remembered only as a sick warped man and his family will be affected for life. All around I found it to be a tragic story of hidden sickness, that couldn't stay hidden.

E I agree with you here somewhat Ellen. I don't think castration is the solution because the perversion is based in the psyche. Removing the genitalia (surgically or chemically) isn't going to change the mindset. Unfortunately here in the US there have been instances of voluntary chemical castration only to have them re-offend. I would say that life imprisonment in a psychological hospital setting would be the best solution. Off the streets, protecting both the offender and society at large.While hospitalization may not possibly offer up a cure, there is the potential for study to understand the sickness itself and learn the basis. Just my opinion.

camille65 There was another previous attempt at suicide but I believe in the latter and successful attempt he had been removed from suicide watch if I remember the article right. I'll see if I can find the one I read. Edited to add link to article. http://news.aol.com/story/_a/incarcerated-prosecutor-commits-suicide/n20071005230209990009 seems that the suicide was lifted at one point by request of the defense but it isn't clear whether that was still the case at the time of the suicide itself.

The sad thing is,many harbour desires in a direction which could be called 'sick'.To many it is just desires,but to others it may become a reality.People in positions of power do seem to be exposed as such when they commit an offence,may this be due to their added pressures,or perhaps a degree of arrogance due to their upstanding position or even because of their position, they are under closer scrutiny.Lots of what it is what we do could be called sick to many,especially those in the media who enjoy exposing in a bid to sell and further their own careers.What it is that we do,can be looked upon as exposing our demons and pent up feelings in a safe and consensual way with others who understand, which to me makes for a more rounded and accepting person and therefore a person less likely to be a risk to others. As to paedophilia, that has gone on for a very long time, perhaps to the dawn of man's history and still exists as a desire for some.As to what to do about it,that I do not know.Wrong it is,very wrong, but the solution to the problem I feel will be very much a case of trial and error not to mention the damage done due to the experimentation.
