Status: offline 		it is, but there are pitfalls, you can get addicted to the money, you can turn off bdsm in your personal life, you can open your door to loonys.

i guess with all careers a good barameter is: if i had millions of dollars would i still be doing this?

if the answer is yes, then i would refine the question to who your clients would or would not be.

i was in the sex industry for 5 years (waaaaaaay back i am old) and i loved my job both as a prostitute and as a pro domme, there were folks i only saw once cause they skeeved me out, but on the whole it was a great experiance......but.... i set it up that way, i made sure to screen and double screen, i made sure to have safety precausions in place, and i really loved men, sex, pain, and power dynamics.

If you are serious about being a professional Domme, you ought to hook up with one who has a fair amount of experience in doing it and has a positive attitude about what she does. You should expect to begin by doing dual sessions. Learn all you can from her, knowing full well that while you are learning and she is teaching you, one should not expect to be rolling in cash. As time goes on, you should expect to attract several "regulars" who will want to see only you and who will follow you if you leave to start your own business.

Be aware that there are legal ramifications about what you do and you should do your best to be very sensitive of the laws in your area (State and local) about prostitution, pandering and operating a house for the purpose of prostitution. Your sensitivity in these legal areas will help to keep you out of hot water with authorities who may not see what you are doing as consensual play between consenting adults.

Plan to pay taxes. Keep your services and your books completely legal and above-board. If you took any accounting classes when you were in college, they'll come in handy. Learn how best to market yourself. While Collarme is a great venue, you should plan to generate a website inviting customers. If you are working with a mentor, it should be linked to her website but should be separate and distinct from hers from the outset. Nowadays nobody takes a pro without a website seriously. You should inform dickievirgin, Max Fisch and Bella's List of your website as soon as you have it up.

Status: offline 		Plese, don't fall for the temptation of becoming a pro-domme for the money. When all your costs (marketing, toys, play space, security, taxes, insurance, pension funds and so on) has been paid you don't actually get more than you would earn in any other mid-income profession. Sure, there are a few who has managed to make a very decent living out of it, but I'm yet to meet one who has if she has also made sure to pay the tax/insurance/pension bits.

It's not easy money, trust me. Those os us who do this job work very hard and risk burn-out. Personally I decided years ago to quit the moment this felt like an ordinary job. I never take on a client who is not into exactly the same thing as I enjoy, never ever perform activities I don't feel like doing and have limited my clients down to one a week - at a maximum. The €215 I charge my clients (about $340) covers my cost for the session (wear and tear, disposables and so on, my taxes, national insurance, employers fees et.c.) as well as cover what I would have earned that day had I not taken the time off to see them. Sure, if I would see more clients I would be able to make a larger income. But at what cost to myself?
I want my play time to feel fun, I want to long for the sessions and enjoy them. I don't ever want to feel I have to see a particular client, or perform a particular service, just to make ends meet so I have a job (which I incidentally love) to make sure I never have to!

In the end, I've always declined.  I would much rather do what I do for the fun of it.

Status: offline 		A lot of prodommes start out in apprenticeships, and then work their way up the ladder. My friend actually has a "body gaurd" for her scenes that stands just outside the door to make sure the other party isn't trying to kill her.

Status: offline 		I miss being a pro dominant, but overall, going back to it is not worth the risks and aggravation.  I was very selective about my clients, and still keep in touch with some as friends.  That meant a lot of screening, and of course lots of wasted time.

I won't go into the legal issues, the incredibly high overhead---because you NEED to have a dedicated play space, furniture, costumes, toys, etc etc, there is no getting around that if you really want to do your job properly---the real problem is knowing yourself, and your personal boundaries.

I am very experienced, and I was in the scene more than a decade when I went pro.  I knew from the get go that certain things are absolute NO things  for me.  I knew that while some kinds of play are great with friends, they are not so great with the person you see for an hour a month.  I had (and have, of course) a very secure sense of myself.  I limited the number of clients that I saw, because there is a limit to how many satisfactory scenes I can perform in a day. 

Are you prepared to see some player dis you on the Max Fisch boards?  Are you prepared to have the folks in your local scene give you that appraising "wonder if she fucks them?" look?  Are you ready to deal with more wankers and morons than you could ever imagine existed, just to get to the ones that are worth your time and energy? 

A last practical tidbit---know your economy.  Are the little escort girls eating up the domination market?  Even wankers will vote with their wallets.

Status: offline 		I appreciate all of the feedback that my post has gotten, but I think that a lot of people are under the assumption that I'd be sleeping with my clients, which wouldn't be the case.  Even though I'm a self-proclaimed nympho,  if I did choose to be a pro-domme it would not even enter into the equation.  I'd rather be able to dominate someone than to go to bed with them.  A combination of that is excellent, but not when someone's getting paid for it.  Unless both parties really decided that's what would be acceptable, then I suppose it would be fine.  Not to say I'd never do it, but it's not what I'm solely seeking out.
