DrightenPagen -> CollarMe Chat Room Issues (10/8/2007 1:47:59 PM)

I had a long discussion about the chat room policies here at this website and was surprised to learn about the apathetic atittudes displaced by so called highly trained moderators.

I always thought chat rooms were a forum for discussion of ideas and developing of new friendships.  Imagine my surprised when I learned that the one popular chat room regularly kicks people off for trolling and even imaginary offenses.  Ask one of the moderators about why someone was kicked or banned, and you get this answer "If you dont like the rules and policies of this chat room, dont come here".  Also I might add, the person was banned, though doing nothing but bitch about the chat room.  Though I thought it chicky that a number of people seem to get kicked everytime they have a verbal alteraction with one of the favorite status ppl.  lol!

Are the owners playing control and power dynamic issues, or is it my imagination?  Or is this collarme chat policy.  Or are the very owners of this website the same ones who run the chat rooms.

Imagine my surprise at wondering if there is anything truly open to the public here, or is it little more than an elite boys and girls club where the rules are for the vermin like me.

Ideally chatrooms should be about discussion, and meeting new friends. However do you know the meaning of trolling? usually on a message board or chatroom it is someone looking for sex or wank material.  it is annoying and I really can't say I blame the mods for throwing people out for it.  Everyone should know/ask what are the rules when entering a chatroom for the 1st time.  If you don't like it, go elsewhere.  I am not sure how they operate the chatrooms here, but I remember on MSN chat, quite a few of the rooms were automonous. The owner of the room decided what the  rules were, and that was that.

Do some moderators and chatroom owners just fuck with anyone who isn't a friend? yeah. thats true in real life as well.

Trolls can have many different definitions…I like this one...
” Trolls can be existing members of a community that rarely post and often contribute no useful information to the thread, but instead make argumentative posts in an attempt to discredit another person, concentrating almost exclusively on facts irrelevant to the point of the conversation, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others”
We sure have a lot of those in the message board and if I were a moderator I would kick me out too…. I mean If I were a chat room moderator I would kick people out that displayed the above behavior.

Some of the chat rooms are user created,. and I would think that that particular user should have the right to do what they want.  I don't go to the chat rooms, but I have a channel on irc and will tell you, I do have final say so.  Not sure which room you are talking about, so it may not be user created, but is just an opinion if in fact it is.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: CollarMe Chat Room Issues (10/8/2007 5:19:11 PM)

I cant even get in these chatrooms.

kc692 -> RE: CollarMe Chat Room Issues (10/8/2007 5:23:58 PM)

Why not?????

**thinks she needs to investigate and make a stink over there and have some fun if not user created rooms**

My experience has been they are incredibly boring here at CM and I avoid them....but you're right what is trolling is a fairly low standard.

Let's look at it like this.  {For community user created chat rooms.}

You have a party at your home and invite the public to an open party.  Someone comes in and does nothing but bitch about the party place and those who opened their doors to the public and those who are there.  Or someone comes in not to take part in the party as it is, but to troll your party and make a fast pick up, turning your party into something you don't want it to be.

What would you do?

laurell3 -> RE: CollarMe Chat Room Issues (10/8/2007 5:39:25 PM)

I get that....of course....but it is a personal site that at least in some degree revolves around sexuality.....and they way I have seen the mods treat people suggests it is not...which is puzzling.  This however, is not your home, and the rooms are open to the public....so lambasting the innocent that wander in and don't know the 238423049230420439 rules seems somewhat inappropriate to me.  That's just my opinion.

OK here it is......I just went to the chatrooms area and went to the top of the page and lo and behold, look at what I copied to paste in here:

Active Chatrooms

Note: Collarme.com does not select the chat operators of user-created (unmoderated) chatrooms. Therefore, the rules established for these rooms are at the discretion of the user who created them.

As Paul Harvey says:  and now yanno the rest of the story.

Seems pretty cut and dried to me;  the forums are the area you need to have discussions and are moderated (although as little as possible to try to preserve individuals until they do something wrong) otherwise you are in someones territory and they gets to make the rules.

To the OP:  Nothing is stopping you from starting your own room., then you can run it the way you want to.

I wasn't defending anyone or place.  I was trying to offer up another way to view what might have happened.  I have no idea how most the chats here do things because I only go to a couple of them.  There are some that have a discription that sounds like almost anything goes and then others that clearly state they do not.  Whatever the case might be, some order has to be maintained and at times monitors can be dealing with quite a bit.  On a bad day I have seen some go off far too soon and blast someone undeserving and on other days, I wonder why someone was allowed to drive everyone out of the room. lol

luckydog1 -> RE: CollarMe Chat Room Issues (10/8/2007 6:19:12 PM)

Not gonna touch this one, nope, I am reformed.  I have seen the light. Mods are wise and mercifull....

ModeratorEleven -> RE: CollarMe Chat Room Issues (10/8/2007 9:49:18 PM)

Indeed we are, but the forum moderators have nothing to do with the chatrooms.  Personally, I would rather have a root canal and a colonoscopy at the same time than spend a minute in a chat room.

lol Mod 11 are you a masochist by chance?  I agree with your assessment of the chatrooms though.

If I was a masochist, I'd spend my free time in chat rooms.

haha true....however your choice of two evils were both rather distasteful, although yeah the chat room is worse, imo.
