ORIGINAL: MadameMarque It may be because, initially, the girl, who at the time was maybe 18?, thought that this was her supervisor and the police, accusing her of a crime, and she thought she had to comply and submit to a search. By the time the caller's directives were too ridiculous to be true, she was actually being prevented from leaving, had no clothes or phone, and the people holding her were acting totally inappropriately. Imagine how it would feel, as things just get worse and worse, more out of control, and you're stuck in a little room with this guy and his fiance' looming over you. The one thing I did wonder, is that she didn't scream for help - I don't know if she would have been audible to customers - or just run naked, out of the room. But maybe she was afraid it would provoke them to violence. That wouldn't have been an unreasonable fear. On the stand, the girl said that she wondered if it was going to be her last day on earth. I would have wondered, myself, because after these people have committed all these criminal acts, what are they going to do about you not telling anyone? Even if it really had been a policeperson on the phone, that would actually be even worse, because the acts were still illegal, and if a law enforcement officer were involved...? Nicely stated. Saved me the trouble. I can't even imagine the fear and intimidation this teenager must have been experiencing during something so traumatic. I'm not sure how I would've handled the situation myself, as I wasn't in her shoes, but my guess is that she did what she thought she should do in order to survive the ordeal.
