I thought he had also included Japan. However, I might be wrong but I thought NATO stood for North Atlantic Treaty Organization? Anyway, it wouldn't work, there would be too many countries with too many disperate interests. Originally NATO had one specific aim which was why it held together. We have already seen as the US tries to enlarge its area of operation, cracks apprearing. The US's view of the ME conflict conflicts with the views of many European countries. It matters little whose views are right or wrong, there is a difference.

Well yes[&:] but NATO's  roll and theatre was clearly defined and maybe not so much in Britain but in other European member countries, there was enormous voter pressure not to allow it to go beyond its remit.

Speaking of Jewish voters, there is a growing and vociferous band here (they tend to be the more liberal members of the Jewish community i.e. actors, comedians, journalists etc) who are utterly pissed off with the Israeli government, and want the bulldozing of Palestinian land and theft of their homes to stop. Yep, there are Jewish people who are mightily pissed off... I knew some in San Diego.  Some also think that it's nuts to get cozy with the pro-Israeli Christian fundamentalists [and I'm talking pre-mill fundamentalists, not all Christians, justsoyaknow]... who only need Jews around to fulfill pre-mill prophecies.  After the messiah, the remaining Jews are supposed to convert.
