Though I've been in the lifestyle for upwards of seven years, I've never been active in the public side of things. I finally steeled my spine and worked up the courage to go to a play party this weekend. I was so glad I did! The group hosting it was Andromeda (http://www.andromeda-bdsm.com ), and everyone was so wonderful! Everyone was very warm and open, and I felt exceptionally welcome. I'm looking forward to diving into the lifestyle wholeheartedly now. I witnessed my first official scene, with my best friend as the bottom, and had a Wartenberg wheel demonstrated on me for the first time. I've been utterly glowy and happy ever since I got home.
So I suppose what I'm really trying to say here is that, to all those newbs, novices, and socially shy people, once you've done a bit of research and experimentation on your own, don't be shy! Find a group and get involved. It may take several groups and meeting lots of people until you're comfortable, but once you find the right set, it's worth it. I learned more that night than I had in the seven years preceding it, and I have nothing but praise for the group and the experience. Hooray!
As a disclaimer, I wasn't sure where to post this, since I wasn't specifically meeting people from Collarme. Hopefully this ended up where it should.
