What is a trouser mouse? *L*

No one wants a kitty that kills trouser mouses... except maybe the Bobbit lady.

I would need one of those furless cats, but they are so damn ugly... even if it were the sweetest thing in the world I dont think I could deal.

OK, on a serious note here.....check out the animal shelters!  Driving out to a farm may work also.....but some advice....if you get one, get TWO!  Two aren't anymore work than one, and they will keep each other company when you're not home.  Try NOT to get them started on canned food, dry is just as good, and cheaper!  Wal-mart's special kitty litter in the big brown bag works just as good as the expensive kinds, but at half the price.  And they have these cardboard scratcher things that will keep them off the furniture.

Good luck in your hunt.....they'll be great fun!

If you really want to keep them from clawing the furniture you need a scratching post that's way sturdier than your couch.

I recommend taking a landscaping tie, cutting it down to 4 or 5 feet and attching it to a wide, sturdy base. Cats don't do flimsy. Then wrap it with thick sisal twine starting about a foot from the floor and going right to the top. Do NOT soak the twine first, it will stretch as it dries, not shrink. Use wood glue mixed with water to secure the sisal to the post. Sprinkle with catnip and serve.

They will never lay a claw on your rugs or furniture if they have that to climb. Put a petting perch on top so you can be eye to eye.

A honey suckle log is also a great scratching post - almost as seductive as catnip.

I agree with the previous posts, animal shelters are a great place to start. My rottweiler loved my cats.

My vet takes in unwanted cats/dogs in his neighborhood and has a board to post on other cats/dogs.  He provides them with the shots etc. and lets people that will adopt them pay according to what they make.  I only mention it because it might be a good place to find a pet that you know a bit about from a vet if you can find anything similar.

Just remember to go out and spend some real time when you're looking at cats, to play with them and pet them, and not rush your decision. You'll be picking a companion who will share your living space for the next 15 years or so, and you want to make sure you can get along. Don't feel limited to one or two shelters or breeders and "whatever they happen to have in stock that day" because you NEED a cat Right Now.

Also, you might consider an older cat... they can be more moderate in their temperment, *can* be less destructive (my poor couch ), and there are a lot that need homes.

I have a woodpile that's often good for a batch of feral kittens. That's not a healthy place for wild mama cats to hang out though, because feral cats are so hard on the pheasant population - and I like pheasants.

I've noticed that there are a lot of submissive types in here who refer to themselves as "kitten", and I have to wonder if perhaps that's what her master was talking about?

Ya think!

i've been enjoying the snowball effect, laughing as it turned into a "pet parade"
of advice. saseblubutrfly probably has been too, or at least shaking her head
at the information put forth by a bunch of Mo's. Well meaning Mo's, but Mo's
none the less. xBullx almost put a damper on things, but noooooo, they just
continued on, much to my own enjoyment. Of course, i could be wrong here,
making me a Mo myself, but i believe saseblubutrfly was speaking of a purring
playmate of the human persuasion. Of course i responded in my usual playful
twisted way, sending the thread smack dab down the wrong way on a one way
street. And the traffic simply turned and followed. i love this place, i really do.
