highrider774 -> Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 8:24:48 AM)

I've had this problem dealing with things lately. I'm submissive, every so often I'll get to where I can't respond around friends or family with a clear head sometimes. I don't know how to respond, or I just won't respond. This happens every so often. (used to be more frequent) I dunno if this is due to sub-space, or maybe it relates to something else. I do smoke pot, and there were times when it would affect me like this, I'd get "high" and then I'd feel out of it. atleast I thought it would affect me like this. I'm still unsure. There's other times though where it doesn't happen that way, I'm completely fine and can control myself under the influence.
I'll get sucked into a submissive role, and I still get the feeling of being out of it. Not feeling like myself, not feeling like I'm in my body
Does sub space or can sub space last a while, and can it affect me feeling "out of it" around friends family and just in general with myself?
if it can, is sub space really a good thing then? is there a way to come "up" faster, is there a certain amount of time that it should take, because the feeling can last for up to 3-6 hours sometimes, and it really affects me throughout my vanilla life.
Thank you for any insight.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 9:07:05 AM)

it has been this slave's experience that "subspace" is an altered state of consciousness, comparable to a trance state, like one achieved through meditation.

some define subspace as that trance state achieved ONLY through some sort of BDSM means.  this slave has achieved that same trance state, sans BDSM, frequently through other means over her 35 years before discovering WIITWD. all that changed was the focal point(cognitive object) and the sexual energy experienced.

excerpt from an interesting read:

"So what is my theoretical paradigm for trance? Basically I claim that the necessary and sufficient condition for a trance to occur is whenever there is a sustained cognitive object loop of sufficient length of time to cause dissociation. A cognitive object is an abstract way to denote a thought, any thought, whether it is a word, an idea, a feeling, a vision. When a set of cognitive objects repeat often enough, you will go into a trance."
---A Gentle Introduction to Trance Theory
Dennis R. Wier, Director, The Trance Institute, Bruetten, Switzerland http://www.trance.edu/drupal/

subspace, smoking pot, even taking an aspirin, does not affect everyone the same way.  some folks are highly allergic or negatively affected by either, some or all of the three.

this slave would not recommend them for everyone and would encourage everyone to know themselves and prepare for a potential negative reaction to either of the three.

AFlyInYourWeb -> RE: Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 9:18:46 AM)

I'll agree with the phrase "trance-like state".

It is also possible that the OP is describing "sub-drop", which I define as an emotional let-down after the emotional "high" of being in that trance-like state.  In my youth, I remember feeling detached and ambivalent after a BDSM rush.  In time, I learned how to control my emotions after the party was over.  It helps to be in the hands of the right Dominant, who anticipates sub-drop and knows how to give "after-care".  After-care can be anything from cuddles to watching the Comedy Channel together.

Laughter is the best medicine for me, and being able to laugh at myself helps most of all.

ASCs are ASCs... induced by external chemicals (THC) or internal ones (Endorphins and Antibradykinins).

When you can't control going into an ASC, you're not able to function normally around others not in an ASC as well. Not a good limitation to have. Tends to cheapen the whole thing more than a bit.

Personally, this is why I tend to be choosy about my play partners and "fellow mystics"... Ask me to take you into an ASC, and I want to make sure you know what you're asking for. This isn't about pot or drugs - this includes BDSM and deep isophephos and ritual magick.

fast reply...

well since you felt it necessary to include in your first post, i felt it appropriate to address it...your pot smoking seems to take up way too much time in your life...sure smoking a little pot once in a while is not that big a deal...but when it alters your state on a regular basis...maybe its time to quit?

I don't think so. He didn't say..

"I get the feeling of being out of it."  He said..

"I still get the feeling of being out of it." That suggests that 'feeling out of it' is independent of feeling submissive.

just using the same logic, Celeste.  following your response, he also says:

quote:

which suggests that controlling himself from being "out-of-it" is also independent of the pot-smoking, as well as the submissive "feeling".

CHOOZY -> RE: Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 12:52:44 PM)

I'm a newbie and havn't experienced subspace yet.  I've been deoing a lot of chatting and some subs seem to be able to subspace at the drop of a hat.

I can't seem to get anywhere near.  Is there a technique to it ? Or could I just not be "letting go" or something ?

It's all very confusing !

HotFaerieMama -> RE: Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 12:59:45 PM)

when i was 16 i tried to pierce my nose and i know now that i bascially went into subspace.. that was an eye opener.. and i've spaced.. other times as well.. i just sat there and let it happen.. but of course i had lots of clohtes pins on me as well...

teamnoir -> RE: Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 1:03:11 PM)

Sub space is just a form of trance. It's indistinguishable from some forms of hypnosis and several forms of hypnosis are induced using essentially the same procedures as one uses to induce sub space.

When one starts playing with trance spaces, it becomes fairly easy to slip from one into another or to slip into them at other times. If it starts to become a problem, then you'll need to start paying more attention to the transitions and/or start using some other techniques, (meditation, magick, etc), to help you control them yourself.

Trance is also closely related to dissociation. And some forms of dissociation are very tricky and potentially pathological. So if you really are having problems, seek help.

Also, I've noticed that playing in certain kinds of ways, typically with "no safewords", single use safewords, or playing off the edge into the abyss frequently can also start to create dissociative problems. So if you're doing much of this, then it might be time to back off some - at least until your state transitions come back into your control.

I'm guessing you're using ASC here to mean "altered state of consciousness". Personally, I don't like the phrase "altered" as it appears to claim that there is some "unaltered" state and I don't believe that.

States are like locations on a map. You can move from one to the other. But being at any one spot is neither "altered" nor "unaltered". It's simply a location.

This has not been my experience at all. My experience is that it depends far more on the familiarity of the state, the type of social interaction involved, social tolerance for those shifts, the nature of the specific state, etc. Some states make it easier to relate, which is one of the reasons that alcohol is used at many social functions.

Your use of the word "normal" here speaks to the familiarity of the state. For an alcoholic who has been consistently drunk for many years, this becomes his normal state. Alcohol deprivation would then constitute an altered state.

And NLP, hypnosis, tantra, and many others. Yes, I'm following you.

What you describe is not sub-space as I've ever seen it.

I suggest you knock the pot on the head for 6-8 weeks.  If you're still suffering the same effects then seek medical help.

But a tenner says you won't be.  It's the pot.

Valentyne -> RE: Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 1:13:13 PM)

**fast reply**
Is it possible that this could be related to a clinical depression?  I have experienced this as well, and still occasionally feel the same way, but mine was a form of lethargy related to depression.  I felt like things were happening around me that I wasn't a part of, just an invisible spectator, even if people were trying to engage me I felt like I was wasn't really there and was not compelled to respond in any way.  Smoking pot also can produce similar affects, as at least one of the strains is a known CNS depressent, hence the feeling we have come to know as couch-lock...  same dif.  But it sounds like you experience this independantly from your consumption of pot, and independantly from your submissiveness...  in my opinion, while it may be a contributing factor sometimes, I don't think either is the base cause of your problem.  All I know is if it doesn't walk like a duck and doesn't talk like a duck...  you might want to take your duck to a psychologist and see what's going on

Sub space isn't a particular location so much as it is a whole class of possible trance states. There are many different types and many different sorts. Most people on these board describe one such experience and declare it to be "sub space". On a good day you'll even get people comparing experiences and either finding some similarities or arguing that one of them isnt' really in the same space.

All of this is sort of true. There are many different sorts of trance and many different mechanisms for getting there. If you play much, you'll eventually find your own. It's entirely possible that you already have but that you haven't played enough yet to recognize it as a distinct state of mind. Or that you have reached that trance state, but don't think of it as anything out of the ordinary. Any of these are possible.

Relax. Enjoy. It'll find you when you're ready for it.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Sub Space (anyone truely understand it?) (9/24/2007 4:07:44 PM)

Choozy- don't worry about it, no matter how often it gets talked about, a LOT of subs do not experience subspace frequently, and some never do.  It's just a particular type of experience- it doesn't mean anything in and of itself.
