I like the Andrew Jackson quote at the end. Jackson was the only president to run the country in the black.

The Fed is an extension of the markets, could care less about Joe & Josie six-pack.

I think Greenspan is full of shit when it comes to trade.
What do you expect him to say, he's a Republican.
If it's good for big business then Greenspan think's it's good.
He couldn't care less about the American people!

Sure...that's why he's quoted as saying "Clinton was the smartest president I worked under", as well as having nothing but praise for Clintons entire presidency, and nothing but derision for Reagans, Bush I and Bush II.

(As I said above....read.  News snippets don't tell the story...history, however, does).

And no...that wasn't on a TV show...it was in his book (which is no less than extraordinary...a rare opportunity to sit at history's knee as it unfolded).

Now I *know* he's full of shit!

And to think so many of you vote.

Sad.

SMC.....

The whole video is pretty powerful - But I especially like the end when he's shielded by the police as he's walking out to the street.

It's reminiscent of LBJ being placed in a position where he was only able to speak when he was at military facility and surrounded by soldiers.

Greenspan never said anything that was "profound" and he wasn't a seer.
Most of the time he spoke jibberish and the uninitiated hung on his every word. He had a good "PR" game going.
If you read the Wall Street Journal you'd have a good idea of what was going on in the economy.
The transportation figures are very helpfull in this.
As are a lot of other figures.
For anyone who claims to be able to divine the future I have one test; give me the lottery numbers for next week.
I think it was Marshall Petain who said; "The cemetarys are full of indispensable men."

popeye,

Some people read the paper better than others, some people decide what goes in those papers, some people decide who owns the papers...

Greenspan was brilliant and very good at his job.  Of course, various people have different ideas about what exactly that job was.

Keep the economy stable is one, get the rich richer is another.  By endorsing Bush and his hairbrained tax cuts and war and only speaking out about the growing housing crises overseas, Greenspan clearly was more interested in the latter than the former.
