Hell, if you see a service person, HIDE THEM IN YOUR BASEMENT!

The only way to keep them safe, is to keep them out of Iraq.

Lumus -> RE: Never Forget... (9/22/2007 7:18:19 PM)

I watched the clip in its entirety, but all that came to mind was:

Two leaders with opposing ideals, neutral territory, rock/paper/scissors, best 2 of 3.

Sorry, I'm not belittling people who are in the forces, but I'm questioning the need for an army.  I could not in good conscience be proud of a system that promotes violence to preserve peace.  I like farglebargle's post; it distracts me from the cry of rhetoric that validates the job of a soldier [the comment on it being a job and the soldier asking family to be proud irked me, not on the soldier's level per se unless they willingly perpetuate the system that uses them as fodder for an ideological difference].

I would, and have, fought when necessary, but the only weapon I've ever instigated with was my tongue.  When confronted with heavier topics like warfare, I wonder if democracy by definition should allow the citizens to decide whether they will engage in war or not.

And since for now, war is a reality, I would wish nothing but the best for those who are made to engage in a fight chosen by others...for the choice was not given to them.

I think you have it backwards, Fargle.  People don't swear the oath so civilians can keep THEM safe.

That's bullshit.

NO-ONE is doing shit for Me or You in Iraq.

And "Being Kept Safe" is for the Mentally Retarded and Infants.

We have a 2nd Amendment specifically for the reason to be able to say, "YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY, FREEDOM AND LIBERTY".

"Being kept safe?"... Sounds like some sort of Socialist Agenda or something.

Or is it just more Welfare for those too damn lazy to see to their own Freedom and Liberty?

farglebargle -> RE: Never Forget... (9/22/2007 9:26:01 PM)

Just wrote a check to the US Treasury for another 750 bucks ( Estimated federal taxes... ) So hearing about how wonderful all this wasted money is.

Nice to know the State Department doesn't trust the Marines to protect them, and goes and hires Mercenaries to do it at a premium...

Ugh.
