It always means so much more to me when a compliment comes unsolicited out of the blue from an unexpected source. Tonight I received some wonderful compliments from someone that I hold in high esteem. Encouraging words and a nod of approval...and damn it felt good. What a lift!

It also made me realize that I don't take the time to reach out and express my appreciation for others often enough. What a wonderful gift that only takes a few moments of time....and one that can certainly be a high point in someone's day.

When you get these unexpected accolades, what do they do for you? Do you ever take the time to give others a nod and a few encouraging or complimentary words?

Receiving them sometimes make me feel awkward. I love tho, telling someone that I appreciated them in some way. That something they did made a difference in my day.

I always take the time to give credit where it's due. It can make the difference between a lousy day and a great day for someone.

Does it change how it makes you feel depending on who it comes from? A friend or relative? A stranger? A dominant?

It really does make a difference yes. From family/ex-husband I automatically try and see just why they're saying it, try to find the ulterior motive.
Yet from strangers or my dom I accept them for what they are, good words directed at me with nothing wanted in return.
I hadn't really thought about the differences before.

Whenever I receive praise after boning my mother it always leaves me feeling rather hollow....Now if erin were to give me the thumbs up after doing the Horizontal bop I would be smiling from ear to ear.

Hi Erin,

Unexpected compliments or words of encouragment always make me feel good.  I'm usually surprised, lol.  Particularly from someone I respect and admire, no matter from what walk of life.  And yes, I try to be complimentary to others as well, although I don't think I do that nearly enough.

I am a big believer in giving compliments and building up others through honest observations.  I am about to change jobs and have been brought to tears by the number of workmates who have mentioned how much my positive comments give them a boost.  Needless to say I love receiving unsolicited compliments from others and after many years of trying to fob these off I now can accept them with a gracious 'thankyou'.

I try to say positive things to people as well. It can make a big difference in your day, sometimes on both ends. Feels win win to me.
