As Hillary takes more than a 20 pt lead for the Democratic nomination, the GOP race may get even more crowded...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said he may consider running for president if he gets enough pledges for donations...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says he still might run for president if supporters will pledge $30 million by November.

"You can't bring all your good ideas if you don't have the resources to communicate," Gingrich told reporters Thursday at a breakfast in Washington.

Gingrich is holding a national Internet-based workshop next week. Afterward, his top political adviser, Randy Evans, will spend October seeing if he can generate pledges of $30 million, which Gingrich said would be needed to compete with the leader in the GOP presidential money chase, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

On Nov. 1, if the pledges pan out, Gingrich will consider running, he said. He didn't say when he would decide but noted that Nov. 6 is one year before the 2008 presidential election and that Nov. 13, when Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy in 1979, is a "propitious" date.

I like this idea.

We need more Republicans to run for President to dilute the donation pool of their main corporate backers, then they can fall from grace even harder.

Especially since all of them are playing the same hackneyed jingoism which worked 20 years ago, and which
the current crop of nitwits in office the past six years have succeeded in rendering irrelevant.

As Matt Taibbi pointed out, "The Republican model for the current candidates is one of two approaches, to be completely silent about the mess in Iraq and hope it goes away or nobody notices, or to talk extremely loudly about something else, hoping to change the subject."

If Newt did run he would be the only Republican candidate I would seriously consider, at least if he ran on a platform of balanced budget and pushed for it as hard as when he was Speaker of the House. Newt rarely gets credit for it but his balanced budget policies as Speaker were a large part of why we had a good economy during the Clinton Administration. That and the low cost of crude thanks to Saddam dumping Iraqi oil on the market in the "Oil for Food" fiasco. Neither of which had anything to do with Clinton, but Bill winds up with the credit for the good times.

Sinergy: This is just dead wrong on the facts:

Didn't you forget about someONE?
A candidate who voted against the Iraq war at it's ONSET?
(Which is a LOT more than Hillary can claim; she voted FOR the war)

Hillary Clinton did vote for the war didn't she?
I wonder if she'll "pull a Kerry" and say "I did vote for the war but then I voted against it."
Also, she and Senator Abbadabba, both voted "for" Bush's Amnesty Bill, didn't they?
If she's for amnesty for illegal aliens she's going to lose.
She'd be going against 95% of the American People.
