ATF after spending decades promoting gun violence by manipulating the law and creating vast grey areas because it served their buearacratic ends has now discovered a new way of fucking up.  Instead of cracking down on gun stores that constantly skirt the not only the letter of the aw but the spirit of the law, are now going after legitimate dealers and shutting them down.

Twenty five years ago my first job was working for a gun store in downtown Sacramento and today was their last day.  I threw caution to the wind and bought a small pile of guns, the highlight of which was a clean Savage 99 and a Spanish 9mm Largo bolt action carbine.  I met the woman who took my virginity there, I learned a lot about sales and human pyschology from Ed Royer, I learned how to manipulate banks and financial records from someone else, I met many many authors of authoritative gun works through there, got to play with some very rare guns and do things with guns few can imagine.  Stripping brand new commercial factory Browning FNs for recievers to build up with the then rare German G1 kits.  I got to strip and force match hundreds of German Lugers, thousands of German Mauser pistols.  I rebuilt every US military semi auto and almost every machinegun.  I cut up enough Sten guns to equip half the Israeli Army, where in fact many of them came from.

It was a great time in my life, enough money I had paychecks lying around I hadn't had time to cash.  I didn't know anything about woman, spent god knows how much wining and dining them and still didn't get laid but my god we had a blast.  Almost got in a shootout with the local SWAT team, poor bastards wouldn't have known what hit them (we had a belt fed 1919a4).  Almost shot or got shot by my father a number of times, not by accident but because we had knock down drag out fights in the the 110+ degree heat.

24 years...amazing it has come to an end.  Sad

Your third paragraph does not exactly support your insistence that a responsible gun store was shut down. I am certain that (even almost) greeting the police with crew-fed weapons fire is illegal in at least one state in the union.

Change is inevitable, Simply, and 24 years is a heckuva run for a small business.  PETA could open a storefront in there and it won't take what you learned.  *

*(That would require that mandatory Dr visit under the Edwards plan ended up with someone deciding you needed to be medicated    ...  <joke>)

Zensee,

When I worked for them they were a large corporation with a number of side firms, one of which was the largest private machine gun dealer in the US.  We had a warehouse inside of which we had a vault consisisting of six 40 foot storage containers welded together full of machineguns.  The local PD higher ups were well aware of our operation although beat cops were not.  We were very secretive.

Long story which I have no interest in going into here but the "incident" was one where the beat cops didn't know what they hell they were doing, the desk sargent was off somewhere and nobody could find him and in short was a cluster fuck not of our making.

This was long before 9/11 but we knew the "bad guys" would only hit us two ways, come in blazing or come in as cops.  We had standing orders to ONLY deal with the desk sargent when WE called and to send all others packing.  Don't worry, us big meanies wouldn't hurt the nice officers carrying .38 cal wheelguns.  I carried a 9mm Browning and an 870 with a bandoleer of ammo with everything from slugs and buckshot to Ferret CS teargas rounds.  We didn't fuck around.

End of an Era v. End of a Life:

After my wife's colleague was murdered this weekend, I have a hard time getting worked up about the vagaries of the ATF.

OMG that is just so sad, cloudboy.

How can any man do this to his own UMs, not to mention the poor woman? Depending on their ages, that is an image that is now forever burned into the psyche of these two poor little boys - the image of their own dad gunning down their mother. How is there any way for them to try to make sense of this?

One can only hope the poor things have responsible and loving grandparents that can help care for them now.

So sorry to hear about this.

- Susan

Right on! We're three dimensional over here: willies, guns, and trucks.
