I am looking for a good place to relocate to. i am in the process of losing my current residence(long story, won't bore everyone with it) and am concidering moving. i would like to find a city with a decent job market, a good BDSM community, and hopefully just good people in general. Best option would be to find someone looking for a 24/7 sub male, but baring that a community would do. I am currently in Rochester,NY, and would prefer to move out of the state if i move. Thanks in advance.

I suggest starting with the job search. Do some online research for your field..and find out where you will have the best of luck. Then look into the local communities of the places you are pretty sure you could find decent work. Worry about hunting for someone looking for a sub only AFTER youve delt with the job/new house/settling/meeting new friends deal.....

How far out of state??

Portland, Oregon is a very nice place.  Somewhat wet - but has an active community and I've yet to hear of any one having any real issues with finding work.

Jobs and housing take priority, but i also want to know if there is a good BDSM community there for once things get settled. It's about priorities, food, shelter, and THEN sex if you can get it. But you are right, basics first.Thanks.

What kind of political leanings do you have?  Do you prefer the cold, the heat, or a good mix?  What job sector are you in?  All of these and many more questions will have a direct relation to what you are looking for I think.

Hi,

I know I am just a tad prejudiced, but check out the Central Texas - Austin area.  We have generally good weather - no snow (or maybe a couple of inches every couple of years, too far inland for hurricanes, sort of out out of the tornadoe belt,  no earthquakes, yes it does get hot but we do have that amazing invention called air conditioning.  Lost of good parks, good public transportation, lots of good schools should one want to continue that, lots of very good hospitals should the unforeseeable happen.  The Austin music scene is world reknown.  If you like jobs in the hospitality market we have lots of good hotels, more eating establishments than you can shake a stick at, bars/dives/joints/clubs and everything in between.  If you take into consideration the entire central geographical area from just north of Austin down to San Antonio there are many many groups and sigs.  You can quite literally do something every single weekend and sometimes 2 or 3 days in a weekend.  If you like the outdoors we have lots of nice state parks close by, cool caves to explore, myriad excellent wineries and mini breweries.  The Colarado River goes through Austin with a series of 5 lakes and dams which make for great swimming, boating, fishing. There are also lots of other rivers for tubing, rafting, and other fun water stuff.  We are a few hours from Mexico for a nice weekend trip, ditto Louisanna for New Orleans jazz or riverboat gambling.  Not a bad drive to New Mexico for snow sports.  Can you tell that I love where we live?  Cost of living is a bit lower in SanAntonio, but the job market is lower as well.

Good Luck in your decision.  Feel free to write on the other side if you have some specific questions or concerns about this area or the "scene" here.  Our girl moved here from Michigan about 2 months ago and (seems to be) almost as happy about the area as she is about us (lmao - that's pretty pretensious huh???)  She does keep saying "I love Texas".

Problem with Portland is its getting overly expensive. I found an article online that essentially said Portland was becoming the next San Francisco in terms of cost of living. If I find the link I'll post it. I just moved from there, and one of the major factors was the increasing cost of living (ok, so my Domme had a lot to do with my relocating as well ).

Nice place, pretty city, decent BDSM scene, but getting pricey.

I have to admit, if you're looking for a great active BDSM community the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA area can't be beat.  We're snowbirds and travel from MT to AZ each year and attend all the munches we can locate.  We often travel through WA and OR on the way south.  We've never seen a munch as big as the Vancouver Munch.  There can easily be 60 people there.  They also plan picnics each year and sometimes do a tour of someplace close by.  Portland has its Portland Leather Alliance which plans Kinkfest each year.  There's also the Rose Society for meetings.

There are comparatively smaller but active groups in Missoula, MT, Helena, MT, Great Falls, MT, Las Vegas NV, and Spokane, WA.  MT has a very low unemployment rate at this time and from what i see around here, people are moving in by the droves cause they keep building new houses.  The Phoenix, AZ area also has a very active community and APEX.  APEX has a great dungeon.  It's also a fast growing area at this time.  When we drive there we see scads of houses with roofing material stacked on them, just waiting for the roofers to get time to do the job.

Of course, you have to be able to find your chosen field of employment where you go.  Hope this has helped a bit.

60 people is a big munch? Hmmmm..... The TIES munch here has well over 60 people each month. Other local munches are smaller but can have 40-50 people. It does help if you enjoy Lake Woebegone-esque lifestylers though.

As I am also keeping an open mind to the idea of relocation, I think I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I love So CA. The best weather, ocean, lakes, hiking, and the scene in LA is very active. Plenty of jobs. A few hrs away is skiing. Scuba here is some of the best in the world.
I am north of LA, so I get to visit and play there without having to deal with LA traffic all of the time.
Passive Arts is a huge dungeon and great fun. Many munches, private parties, and several BDSM clubs are in the LA basin.

Someone asked you what kind of work you do and I didn't see an answer. Also, what kind of climate are you looking for?
