seeksfemslave -> Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 3:25:23 PM)

Just a request for opinions on Mr H..
What do you think of him ?

Aileen68 -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 3:34:33 PM)

I honestly don't think I could vote for a guy named Huckabee.
I know, that's really shallow.

popeye1250 -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 3:50:35 PM)

I really don't know much about him.
Where's he from Arkansas or Virginia?
He's one of those obscure candidates like Abbadabba or Gravel.

Level -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 3:58:25 PM)

Huckabee is likable enough, and bright enough. I'm not sure I'd want him as President, though.

Politesub53 -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 3:59:48 PM)

Another politician from Hope Arkansas

He's all done!
Stick a fork in him.

caitlyn -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 8:07:41 PM)

Mike Huckabee is a very honorable man, or so they say. He comes across as an actual 'family values' candidate, as opposed to someone that has next to no sense of values, and yet runs on that platform anyway (read: President Bush).

In one of the debates, he gave a very heart-felt answer to questions about the American family, and the destruction of American value.

I can't say that I agree with him on very many issues, but I do respect him. If he was the sort of candidate that would pledge to do the will of the people, I could see myself voting for him, as I believe he would be a man that would keep his word.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 8:13:16 PM)

He doesn't believe in evolution.

That's kind of a minimum basic standard for me.  If you don't believe in evolution, you ain't gettin' Lam's vote.  For Church Elder, maybe, but not for President of the United States.

caitlyn -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/11/2007 8:22:23 PM)

I would imagine you believe in some things he wouldn't find familier. [;)]

I'm less interested in a candidates stand on issues, and even less in their personal beliefs ... and more interested in someone that will do what the people clearly want him/her to do.

He's a Baptist minister. I'm sure he'll just love us. Hell maybe hes already on CM

Caitlyn, now you're talking!
We got burned bigtime with Bush and Clinton.
Presidents should be "leading" the government not The People.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/12/2007 4:46:20 AM)

He was the governor here in Arkansas for ten years, and I think he did a really good job in that capacity.  He had to pick up the reins from Jim Guy Tucker, who was Clinton's protege.  Tucker resigned as governor when he got convicted of a felony over the whitewater investigation.  Huckabee did more during his governorship here than Clinton and Tucker had managed to get done in 15 years.  Despite what a lot of people think, Clinton and Huckabee did not grow up in the same town.  Clinton was born in Hope, he didn't grow up there.  Clinton grew up in my hometown of Hot Springs.  He never used his upbringing here during his campaign.  Hot Springs is a resort town and has a really rough history.  It used to be a safe haven for gangsters in the 20's and 30's.  Lucky Luciano was arrested here, Al Capone used to vacation here frequently and owned property in the area, and Owney Madden retired here when he left NYC.  There were bordellos, casinos, huge book making operations, and rife political corruption.  It was a wide open town, and it was like that when Clinton grew up here.  Clinton didn't have this innocent upbringing in a quaint little town like Hope.  People in this country didn't understand a lot about his background when they voted for him during the 90's.

My admiration of Huckabee is because of my knowledge of Arkansas politics and what he had to deal with as governor.  I don't agree with his religious and social views a lot of the time.  But he did a great job with what he had to put up with here.  Arkansas has been controlled by Democrats since Reconstruction.  There have only been 3 Republican governors since then.  You have to understand that Democrats in the South are not liberals.  They are Dixiecrats, and they held their power through corruption.  That has been changing the last 15 years, but it still around to a certain degree.  Huckabee managed to consolidate our school districts which Clinton and Tucker never attempted to do.  He got affordable health insurance for children passed, and he had to fight the federal government over it.  He never was involved in any sleazy scandals like the Clintons, and that was really refreshing.  Our economy improved for the first time in a long time, and our educational system has finally started to climb out of the mess it was in.

I won't be voting for him in the primaries, because Ron Paul fits more into my political ideology.  But I still admire Huckabee.  He is a good, honest man.  He really means what he says, and he doesn't change his views to win votes.  Because of that, he won't win and neither will Paul.  But I don't vote for people the same as I do when I am picking horses.

Thanks for that interesting post slaveboyforyou.

seeksfemslave -> RE: Huckabee. What do you think ? (9/12/2007 6:36:20 AM)

Well he certainly impresses me. Came across him on YouTube. What a difference to GWB.!!!
Very articulate, can think on his feet, prepared to declare his position on what he knows may be divisive eg abortion, belief in God, illegal immigration. Also his position on Iraq appears to be sensible and not designed to  appeal the currently fashionable attitude of <lets fix it by getting out>

Unfortunately for that reason he will probably have difficulties progressing and after you voters have a choice between the fudgers and the demagogues many of you will complain about how corrupt politics is. Not seeming to realise that an openly opinionated candidate has very little chance of getting elected due to the way many voters "think".
So I say at least give him a chance.
Got nothing to do with me tho' lol Nor the voters either he he he he he
I mean whether he is selected as a candidate.

I thought this was interesting.

It doesn't seem like he is specifically saying that he doesn't believe in evolution, as much as saying that he doesn't know how the world was created, but knows that God created it.

Yes, I agree.

And here is one with Huckabee speaking about moral issues. Slams the door shut on those who like to claim that all pro-life Republicans stop caring about the child as soon as it leaves the womb.

I try not to open up very much on this board, because it usually gets you slammed, but when I watched this live, and he mentioned not allowing children to live under a bridge, or the back seat of cars, I must have cried for ten minutes.

I echo what others have said; I believe he's a good man. You're not too bad an apple yourself, caitlyn.
