Oh, I disagree strongly - I've met some remarkably wise 20 year olds and some incredibly foolish and arrogant 60 year olds in "The Community."

The majority are in the middle. I consider myself in the middle and want to stay in a place where I'm always learning something from anyone... and always remembering that I don't know everything.

Age has nothing to do with it.

Media sheepism? Showing your references or logic is hardly that.

No one's rights were impinged in either example offered. Instead, this was showing a way of PREVENTING shoes being stepped on through communication.

To deny another of rights is to deny the existence of the rights themselves.

I can tell you right now that the prejudice also goes to the other end of the spectrum.  If you happen to be a submissive bottom who has been doing this a few years people will pass you by.  I think because they are looking for that blank slate to impress with their prowess.
Having years might fly well alright in the forum world, but when you are seeking a partner it can be a huge detriment.  Personally, I would perfer to be thought of as new and still have potential, than well used and dismissed because you might know more than the top.

At one point did "years in" become such a big deal.  Yeah it helps to know that the person you're with knows the dangerous end of a flogger from the other end, but with a couple of guesses most people can figure it out.

okay - not a problem... sorry for misunderstanding

Communication solves many problems quickly.

Hiya grace, Perplex

I'm not sure if this is a hijack or not; Personally, I think it's on topic.

Perplex,

I'm way cool with the white knight mentality.  I didn't weigh in on that thread, but in short I think it's way ok to help people when you feel they can benifit from it.  I do that all the time: help old ladies get on/off the bus, pick things up that people drop, offer advice to strangers on message boards (if that counts?)  My issue is that every White Knight I've seen in the lifestyle, had one hand to steady a girl with the other feeling up her shirt.  I saw it just the other week in fact.  It riled my white knight instinct to boot; but I had to remind myself that she's an adult, and adults should have their right to choose who they play with respected - even if I don't agree with the situation.

grace,

JMNSHO, but any submissive who doesn't take reasonable care in selecting a partner(s), and then wants to complain after the fact about mistreatment on some level, truly has no more right to do so than anyone else on the planet who's had a negative relationship or scene experience.

But they do.  Fortunately, they establish a reptuation for doing so in time.  The ball bounces back and forth.  I don't quickly/casually play with anyone, for this reason; they have to demonstrate to me that they are sufficiantly balanced, before I'm willing to take a risk.  If that means I'm not playing 'quick' enough with them, it's a good bet they're not someone I'd want to play with anyway.  The same shoe works on the other foot; if a dom has padded his resume, that'll usually become obvious in just a couple weeks.

I think there is a grave mistake in expecting the BDSM community to 'protect' itself any more than the community it derives from protects itself.  Frankly, there are bad people everywhere.  The only sure way to protect yourself, is to hide in a bomb shelter with the steel bars locked.  Barring that, you can make informed, careful decisions based on what you know of your own ability to judge people.  Yet, most of us go on 'instinct' and some of us have great instincts (Merc and beth come to mind) while others don't.  Thus, some people just seem to do well, and others have sob story after sob story.

I do agree with you on the educating topic.  I fear that my experiences have tended to lie in the same vein, though; newbie doms are told to 'watch and learn' while newbie subs end up auditioning for the 'experienced' doms collars.  This isn't to say there aren't good teachers, or that positive learning experiences don't occur; only that I've had bad experiences myself.

Regards,

Stephan

Generally, I find it to be a dick measuring contest of where inches of dick are replaced by number of years.

At least the Dommes can participate. Equal oppurtunity!

This is why I use my current sig-Don't say-do.
