I never thought much about the number of people who want to be sick with a disease. What goes through ones head when you wish to be infected?  Where does the feeling of liberation come from when being diagnosed with a serious illness?

ewwwww!

HotFaerieMama -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/6/2007 8:58:46 PM)

this is gross.. and nasty.. and just plain wrong...

Casie -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/6/2007 8:59:45 PM)

I've heard of this, it's sick. I don't understand it. Perhaps they get enjoyment from the sympothy some have for them. Maybe it makes them feel special?

popeye1250 -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/6/2007 9:01:59 PM)

It is sick and I think anyone knowingly passing along a deadly disease like that is looking at a serious crime and jail sentance.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/6/2007 9:08:40 PM)

I had never heard of this, but it doesn't surprise me.  It's a felony in my state to know that you are HIV positive and to have sex with a unknowing partner.  But if the person knows about it; I guess it wouldn't be a crime.  People like that should be commited to mental institutions involuntarily.  I would say they are a risk to themselves and the community.

slaverosebeauty -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/6/2007 9:12:06 PM)

Their was an episode of "Law and Order: Special Victums Unit" I think about that at one point, I can't remember; but I have heard of that, it turns my stomach that someone would want something like that, a disease with no cure, that can kill you in weeks, months or years, it just depends. I guess if you have a death wish or wish to die a very slow and painfull death thats the way to do it.

pahunkboy -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/7/2007 4:16:27 AM)

I did not check the links. Being a chonic pain patient- I would never  seek out a new injury/ailment.

The rates up there with guys that amaturely cut off their penises!

The biggest media scare about HIV now is about the virus evolving into becoming airborn. Although I'm not shaking in my boots, I can see the posibility of how keeping the HIV virus alive and continuing to allow it to spread, may increase its evolutionary chances of becoming airborn. HIV may not be a death sentence anymore, but the sooner it can be isolated like Small Pox, the better.

Good grief. It is not every day that I learn something that totally floors me, but this makes it one of those days. I cannot believe people could want to do this. And I can't believe this attitude they have, that AIDS is a manageable disease "like diabetes". Even with the best possible treatment, diabetes shortens life by an average of about 10 years, and prior to that most people have complications like impotence, peripheral neuritis, blindness, organ failure, gangrene and limb amputation. And rather than seeking out this illness, people with diabetes pray for a cure.

Those people seeking infection with HIV don't have a clue how expensive the drug treatment is, the severe side effects the drugs cause, and the terribly painful course of the disease if it stops responding to the drugs. Not very sexy at all. Talk about letting the little head do "ALL" of the thinking!

sub4hire -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/7/2007 10:00:09 PM)

There is a small group of people in So Cal who have aids and do the whole play party thing.  Spreading it to whoever contracts it.  Have been for about 6-7 years now.
They disclose nothing until someone contracts aids.  Then they still deny it for a while.  One of the guys has already died from aids.

If you don't want aids or something else.  You need to protect yourself and if you don't.  Who really is to blame?

Not saying what they do is right...but they aren't going to change.  They aren't gay either...all straight people.

beargonewild -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/8/2007 11:45:57 AM)

Unfortunately there are a group of people who have a false belief that being infected with HIV is no big deal anymore. They are under the false assumtion that with the medical breakthroughs in the past 10 years that AIDS is curable through advances in medications. What they fail to realize is the medications may be better, there still is no cure for this deadly disease.

There was a guy in a Kansas chatroom that invited a girl to his house, insisted on having unprotected sex with her, then informed her she now had HIV so she might as well stay with him. Scary.

Can you imagine a hormone induced fuck with a complete stranger ends up in your own slow demise?
How messed up does a person have to be to do that to begin with?
Yeah, I know people do it all the time...but it is your life and you only have one.

*EDIT*
I just checked out the first link,

I've heard it called "bug hunting" and "gift giving" by some in the gay community.

I suppose if one is in a high risk group, one might feel a bit fatalistic.  "I'm probably going to get it anyway, so why not go ahead...." is one such comment I have heard.

But elsewhere on the forums, some people say that having sex with a stranger in a motel room presents less risk than the drive to the motel in your car (car accidents). Personally, I find this hard to believe, unless someone is REALLY a crappy driver. For me, I'd rather be paranoid about STDs, and maybe live longer. And if I die in a car accident, at least it won't be as stupid a way to go as having a one night stand with a stranger.

I don't recall saying that "Bug Chasing" is something that just homosexuals do. I'm not ignorant to belive that hedrosexuals would never willingly contract and or spread STD's on purpose. Bad apples are in every barrel regardless of race, sex, and preference. I seriously doubt and would never think that "conversion parties" are for homosexuals only.

slaverosebeauty -> RE: So who desires to be HIV positive? (9/9/2007 9:05:09 PM)

People who WILLINGLY infect others with HIV or AIDS are now being prosecuted for "attempted murder" in most places. As for the creep who willingly infected that girl and then told him she might as well stay with him, hell no, I would be gone and start the drugs. Plenty of people with these diseases have healthy relationships and NEVER infect future partners.

Just another reason to get checked on a regular basis and for safer sex practices, you never know.

This reminds me of Jewish Neo Nazis...What a fucked up world we live in.
