In the name of "National security " much has happened here in the UK and the US that restricts our freedoms. Scaremongering and back door tactics need to be exposed for what they are. [;)]

It's simple, "get a warrant."

Wow a judge that may have actually read the constitution...who woulda thunk it.

Actually it is already round two.  IIRC, the part about the FBI ordering people to remain silent about handing over the records of others without a court review, was struck down once before, and put back in the 'revised' Act by Congress.

A judge cannot do anything until it is presented to him in court.

What you meant to say was that somebody finally has the balls to sue the government.

Without regard to the legal technicalities of the decision if and /or when a dirty bomb goes off in your backyard I bet you lot of "droopy drawed" liberals will be the first to blame "someone" for not protecting you !

Assuming you survive that is !!!!!

Oh...sorry. Copied the wrong quote:

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
--Benjamin Franklin

That's the real quote.

A little book learnin' can be very limiting when a dedicated terrorist comes knocking on your door.

The correction makes a BIG difference, with the emphasis on "essential" NO ?

-more like a judge who's ruling in favor of 'big bussiness', internet service providers, just happened to stumble across a decision which benifitted the constitution and citizens by coincidence.

personally, I WOULD tend to blame a government that can't even follow the 'legal technicalities' of the laws they wrote for incompetence and generally not having their shit together enough to do much good on the security front.

and the 'if' as in dirty bomb going off over our soil is a pretty big and unsupported 'if'....

No, the emphasis is on 'Liberty', with a capital L and no plural, as being essential. But hey, thanks for trying to deceive... again.

And you've obviously got zero understanding of anti-terrorism if you poo-poo training.

Casie -> RE: Judge strikes down part of Patriot Act (9/6/2007 3:15:04 PM)

I say the patriot act needs to be done away with competely, not just revised.

Alumbrado -> RE: Judge strikes down part of Patriot Act (9/6/2007 3:19:00 PM)

And yet neither side of the aisle is lifting a finger to do just that.

Satyr6406 -> RE: Judge strikes down part of Patriot Act (9/6/2007 3:24:14 PM)

They still have to turn the records over. Now, they're allowed to tell us that our liberties are being violated. It's kind of like being given a shit sandwich with our choice of bread.
