Hotmama, you're right down the road from me here in Myrtle Beach.
Would you be willing to "share" Jenna if that happens?
That'd be funny eh?

Nope, cockroaches are an evolutionary dead end, they are already suited to survive anything, even nuclear holocaust, so no need to evolve further.

As for our future in space, we will go there, because we can.

IMO the earth will cease. but not in our lifetimes. we have a good 10,000 years. maybe longer.

there is suppose to be like a rpature then 1000 yrs of peace.  [i seen it on fox...]

It's interesting that you bring religion into the spectrum. Out of all the debates with Science versus Religion, atleast the two agree that the world will end and we will continue to exist in another form of celestial energy and particals over the vastness of space.

I contend that while cochroaches can survive nukes it will be whatever the lord intelligent evolved cockroaches consider cockroaches that will ultimately save the earth or just be so survivable they don't care : )

I hear the cockroaches are so co-evolved with man, that they'll die back when the sources of warmth generated by human cities dies off.

Of course, there are plenty of other warm places...

Ummm...I don't think we need to perfect space travel right now in order to solve a problem that we're going to face in 4 billion years.

I think it's a little more rational to try to reclaim the Earth and make it habitable for, oh, say a few million years.  Then we can start looking for other galaxies to colonize.  Because if we don't do something soon, the human race is not going to survive this millennium.  You can forget about 4 billion years.

Well the earth is going to be destroyed one of these days. That's inevitable. Eventually the sun is going to run out of fuel. Of course we don't have to worry about that event for another 4 billion years or so. But that will happen.

Another large asteroid or comet will hit the earth.

This is why big thinkers for the last hundred years have been saying that man needs to develop space travel or else face extinction. Humans have been fortunate enough to live in a period of global climate and geological stability. Looking at the history of the earth, this has not always been the case. And there will be a time when chaos will return. That is the natural order of things in the universe. If humanity wants to survive, space travel is our only answer.

Nope. ONE good "Dinosaur Killer" and we're back to the Middle Ages.

The ONLY solution is to take over the Universe.

Fargle, when was the last Dinosaur Killer?

Like, maybe, back at the time of the dinosaurs?

Let's figure out a way to track doomsday asteroids while also figuring out a way to live on Earth.  How the FUCK are we going to start colonizing other planets when we can't even manage our own?

Easy... The problem is that our society is TOO centralized.

By dispersing population, we increase their ability to create viable structures to best promote the individual and general welfare.

I'm not encouraged by things HERE, but I expect some planet elsewhere *could* devise, construct, and hold a Competent Empire.

"I hear the cockroaches are so co-evolved with man, that they'll die back when the sources of warmth generated by human cities dies off. "

Rubbish. There are many species of cockroach, and while they have adapted to living with/off humanity they are not tied to us by evolution.

"Ummm...I don't think we need to perfect space travel right now in order to solve a problem that we're going to face in 4 billion years. "

Where did you get that timeframe? There are may ways our species or the planet can be destroyed, and there is no definitive timeline.

"Nope. ONE good "Dinosaur Killer" and we're back to the Middle Ages. "

One good "Dinosaur Killer" and it's another species turn to strive for space travel.

Good idea, get to work and lets us know when you've solve the asteroid problem, and all the other potential civilisation ending problems which could effect the planet at any time.
And the longer we get from the last doomsday asteroid, the closer we get to the next one.
Also don't forget that colonisation may help with resource or population problems on this planet.

The most likely "civilization-ending problem" we're going to face is the fact that we've made the planet damn near uninhabitable.  Talking about colonizing other planets and pie-in-the-sky nonsense when we're shitting in our own drinking water makes absolutely no sense to me.

You know, in the same way that the human race can be destroyed by Earth being destroyed, I rather hope Al Gore's book is destroyed..  *cough*.

Ah wells.  I guess I shouldn't be so hard on him.  He invented the Internet, after all.

[sarcasm]

Yeah, think of how much further ahead he would be politically if he did not waste all those years developing
packet switching technologies so the internet could work.

[/sarcasm]

It doesnt need to be actually be the truth if Republicans repeat it often enough.

Sinergy

p.s.  What he did do as a congressman was push through funding for the development of the internet.  For thsoe playing the home game, pushing funding through for things is actually the job of congressmen.

Hey, if Vint and Bob are willing to give Gore credit for being the Politician MOST RESPONSIBLE for the development of the Internet, who the hell around here has the credentials or experience to disagree?

C'mon, there's gotta be a few morons who feel they're more knowledgeable than Vint and Bob, but if they don't KNOW WHO Vint and Bob ARE, don't bother responding. You're too damn ignorant to have a credible opinion.
