bad spelling  one liners and abrevations   and in writting this i know the can of worms i have opened

ever read the  thing at the begining of this  the no critisum of others  for the greater part  most all i find in these things is just taht   oh right as long as you do not say who its ok.

I  decided to make a comment here  and  as i t is the first one  i shal try to make  a point. it is about the one line commnets . how many of you have written many lines and been iggied ?

My point is this  i hear a lot of if i am special then make your intor special to me and  if i think you are worthey i shall reply.

We ll in the real world  it is  comment  of less then one line  most use  such as hi and we either reply or  not  but here  it is requested  we  make long introductions. Hay is taht not waht the profile is for  or am i wrong on that .

The there thing is  spelling and gramer . there are an over abundance of  apparent  lit critics here who have more to say about a misspelled word tehn  anything .

Again in real life  taht isnot a concern  but  hereit is . i wonder ho many of those who say  misspellled word go away have lost the one they seek  cause ofit  but if met in real life would not matter and they would not be lost.

yes it is a media taht requires  written understanding  but  in the  C U L 8 R  & TY ifyou do not know waht it is then  it is much more uselesstehn att being  mispelled .

but the C U L 8 R & TY are acceptable  by   those who say you didnot care enough to spell a word right . wahts with that cant you  actualy write the word out  and thus back to the one liner. cant take onle  line  but  can take abreveations. Just to much

I will be the first one out here---spelling, grammar, well written communications and clear articulation are a must to Me----I provide such, and it is required for My work and in home schooling My UM---I find that if someone ( with English as a first language) does not write or spell well, they tend not to be well read--and then we have less in common and even less to share. Poor spelling, grammar and commuication from someone who has English as a first language--don't get to first base with Me.

What is cul8r? Because I don't understand what you're saying.

None of us who bewail badly written posts are saying that you have to write for the New York Times to be taken seriously. We are saying that we aren't willing to read a post six times to try to guess what the writer meant.

Some typos and grammar mistakes come into the best of writings. But seriously illiterate posters should not complain that the rest of us aren't willing to decode their posts.

Besides just above the post box is a small abc above a check sign. Hit that and the site will spell check for you. An easy way for someone who knows their writing is not that easily understood to improve it, hopefully to a degree that they can participate in forum exchanges more easily.

The world does not change for the ease of one person. This is a written media like you acknowledge and while I can understand your preference if somehow this written world could get infused by vocal and physical contact ways it is just not realistic.

Simply put if a person cannot take the time to spell out words and use some proper sentence structure when most have available to them a spell check and grammar program then it shows a lack of effort, sincerity or IQ points on some level.

One line messages do not work because this is not a bar where you can walk up to a person and command attention by just your presence. You are competing with every other person who has written her and what in all honesty do you think separates you from the other men who write a one line Hi there?

For example if you went to a car lot and ten sales people all at once came up to you. Nine of them said “how’s it going?” and one said “I noticed you drove up in this car and you are obviously a man that has these tastes. I think I can show you something you would be very interested”, which salesperson would you go with.

Women on these sites cannot be open to everyone who contacts them. Fair and unfair has nothing to do with it but cold hard reality.

My advice to all who write, save your time and do not write in volume but choose who you think are a good fit and sincere and write a nice, does not have to be long, personal message. The prove yourself worthy and all other crap people put in their profile like they are too good for mere mortals are people you should just save your time and frustration quotient for by passing them by.

soultoshare -> RE: one liners spelling and abreveations (9/4/2007 2:19:12 PM)

nothing personal, but I couldn't finish reading the OP due to all of the misspelled words.  In reading the responses posed, yes, I too find a well written message is going to ge my attention more than a one liner telling me to do something and get back to you.  Lately, I haven't had much time to answer messages quickly, but I do try to get back to those who peak my interest.  I've sent out messages and haven't gotten replies, just as others have...I just figure nothing ventured, nothing gained.

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: one liners spelling and abreveations (9/4/2007 2:44:05 PM)

typos and bad spelling dont bother me if a great point is being made......the ur and asl crap chaps my ass at all times though......at least try to spell.....

i know some great folks that can not spell for shit-and they communicate so well verbally.....i try to remember them when i wanna get pissy at someones spelling....many who cant read or spell hide it well -that cant be done in this medium....

my 2 cents-minus the 33% uncle sugah took....

umisprite -> RE: one liners spelling and abreveations (9/4/2007 2:58:35 PM)

If a person does not care enough to show me his best in an introductory email (one-liner or novella) by at least making sure it is readable then what does that tell me about what he will be offering me later on? It tells me that if he can't bother trying to make a good first impression he certainly won't be making much of an effort later on either.

I'm not looking for an English professor but I am a literate person and have the most in common with other literate types.

popeye1250 -> RE: one liners spelling and abreveations (9/4/2007 4:21:22 PM)

I try to be direct and to the point with a minimum of spelling mistakes and punctuation errors.
But, I'm old school.
Many people in here make spelling errors including me but I don't let it bother me. As long as people can understand you that's the whole point isn't it?

itseeks -> RE: one liners spelling and abreveations (9/4/2007 4:33:26 PM)

My typos always get me in trouble lol.

At the risk of sounding heartless and perhaps elitest, if you're incapable of using a medium that requires writing and language skills or the tools designed to assist you, perhaps you should not participate in said medium.  However, if you insist on participating in a written medium, but realize you do have extreme limitations, then it is on your shoulders to use whatever means necessary to post coherently and legibly.  If you choose not to, then you deserve whatever criticisms come your way.

SolarAndViolet -> RE: one liners spelling and abreveations (9/4/2007 10:12:38 PM)

Ok.. I'm going to be kind of snarky here.

I find it incredibly ironic that a person who brings up the topic of -spelling- doesn't bother to at least capitalize first letter of the sentence, letter "i" when referring to himself or use at least the most basic punctuation marks throughout the post. I'm not even going to mention -typos-.
May be that's OP being lazy... but just makes for a very peculiar comparison.

If one is to write in English and complain about proper spelling, shouldn't he also follow his own advice? Grammar AND spelling... both of which are lacking in the OP's post.

I personally do get lazy at times and make typos or simply forget to capitalize some words, but that's only in fast paced chat-window. If you're posting something that will be available to many people, why not do yourself a favor and make yourself look at least educated enough to write correctly.

For the record, I first thought that the lack of capital "i"s is due to the OP being submissive (as some tend to use lower-case to identify themselves). I checked the profile and realized that not only my initial thought was not true, but grammar-lacking style of writing is present there as well, so I will safely assume that this was not intentional for the 'humor purpose' in this post.

Before teaching others to write correctly, start by setting a good example.

Just a thought.

'violet'

P.S. English is my second language, but I communicate in it and thus respect it enough to at least make an attempt to write correctly.

seeksfemslave -> RE: one liners spelling and abreveations (9/5/2007 6:08:13 AM)

Couldn't really work out what the OP was trying to say but it seems to be about the quality, from the language point of view, of many of the posts.

Systematic bad spelling "jars" with me but I wouldn't comment unless anyone while complaining  about it commits  glaring errors  at the same time.
In this case even in the title
A third read of the OP and all I can be sure of is that MrDP is complaining about something lol

Sit up straight and pay attention Mr DP.

Thank you. See, I had read it as a variant of the word culture which made no sense.

Honestly, if someone is so lazy in their opening attempt to make a connection with me that they don't use spell check when they know they are not good writer, I compare that to a guy showing up for a first date 45 minutes late, with a dirty shirt, unshowered, unshaved etc. I'll take one look and say I changed my mind.

I wouldn't employ someone who came dressed like that to an interview either.

You only get one chance to make a good first impression. It's something most people learn early in life. Apparently the op hasn't learned that before, here's hoping he does soon.

Would this be the same OP who claimed to be hiding out in Canada to avoid prosecution under the Mann Act?

I suspect we are being trolled.   Again.
